heh, um, make sure you tell you friend that I puked that out in between the time I read your post and made my post -- not my finest work :) -- at it's core, though, it's screen-scraping, and it's an inexact science at best -- that is, whenever the source page changes its structure, the code will break. RSS and machine-to-machine protocols are much better, when they're available.

What about avantgo or something like that?

Probably easier (from a robustness perspective) to just scrape the entire page and mail it as an HTML attachment. :D

Oh, and using lynx -dump can provide a plain text version if you care.

Holy moly !

The case for this thing is much bigger than I expected.

I saw the box from Musicians Friend when I got home and told my wife that they must of messed up cause that box is awful big for what I ordered.
Then I pulled out another box and inside of it was this huge case !

Nope, they didn't mess up.....cool
Now I gotta check it out.

yea...I was thinking the same thing...I purchased 4 of the damn things so you should have seen the box the sent me....it barely fit through my front door...
 
CAD M177 Sound Sample

Got my CAD M177’s yesterday. Like others, I ordered two—and I think maybe I got the last two! I kept hearing how folks wanted to try them as drum OH’s, and while recording drums is new to me, I’m moving quickly in that direction. So I thought I’d give them a shot.

Unfortunately, I haven’t tried them on the drums yet. Just got a Pearl Export set, but the rooms not ready to record them yet. (Oh yeah—I don’t play drums, either. Great way to get drummer friends over though: “Sure. I’ve got a kit. C’mon over!”)

So for now I broke the M177 in on a little acoustic recording. And even though I bought two, this little dittie is double tracked w/just one mic—not stereo mic’d with both. Follow the link to hear the clip:

Nice sound! (and nice playing BTW). Not hyped, as if I was in the room. Sounds great thru my monitors.

I ordered one of these mics and it's supposedly shipping Nov. 16. Can't wait!

Yeah--I wish I could get a nice sound like that (it would have to start with good playing, of course, and that's where I go wrong...). Sounds very clear and neutral. I like it. Sending you some rep.

Now that I listen to it again, I think the leading "noodling" in the middle sounds a bit nasally and thin. I didn't eq or compress anywhere, so to take something like this up a notch I'd focus on making that single string stuff a little richer. (I'd probable start by ajdusting the mic's position--I recorded that part in the same positing as the picking/strumming parts.)

Dang, I'll have to wait til later to check this out, but I am very curious.


Used mine on a vocal track the other day just checking it out and messin around.
Now, I need to set up my area to record a real vocal track with it and see what happens cause I swear it cut through better than my other mics on my vocal, which I did not expect at all !
We'll see.
 
I recieved my mics today and just got finished trying them out for about an hour. Only tried them as a stereo pair recording some acoustic guitar. I usually use my ADK Vienna and a SP b1 in stereo when I track my acoustic. My initial impressions of the Cad's is that they are very very neutral sounding. Not hyped at all. Sound just like the guitar in the room. Personally not my first choice for acoustic. Pretty sure I'll stick with the ADK. Just love that mic. But I'm anxious to try them out as drum overheads this weekend when I get a drummer here. Think they might work out well there. I'm thinking these mics might work well on amps too, we'll see. I like them so far.
 
got mine Tues!

Only had time to try it on some nylon string acoustic and vocals, about 20 minutes. To my unskilled ear it sounded smooth and warm. I really like the sound WhiteStrat got. Definitely a good buy! Now if I only had time to RECORD with it!

I don't think it works anymore - I gave docmatic rep 5 days ago for this post https://homerecording.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=2802665&postcount=30 and it has never shown up (it used to show up immediately with a page refresh). When I tried to give it again, the window said you can't give rep for the same post twice.

So I guess rep is broken. I'd report it to Dragon if I cared. :)
 
It's broken? Jeez. I thought I had gotten some a few months back. That's a shame...it's been "broken" before. am I right? I think that's when my confusion about it started...

Great playing!! I love it man... Inspires me to spare some time recording using my new M177. Well I bought it when it was 79.90.

What guitar you used? signal chain?

Thanks for the compliment on the playing! Here's the scoop on the gear. The guitar is a Seagull Artist (the Mosaic variant) with a cedar top. (I love that guitar, but to ramble on about that would require a visit to the Guitar forum).

Signal chain: Seagull > M177 (bass rolloff engaged) > ART Pro Channel (with the EQ & Compression bypassed--just wanted to hear the mic!) > TASCAM 1804 (used an insert to avoid a second preamp) > Cubase.

I suspect part of my sound comes from mic placement. It seems lots of folks here mic at the 12th fret and maybe up to a foot away (when using just one mic--like I did). I mic much closer to the soundhole (probably right between the 12th fret and the soundhole) and closer to the guitar (about 6 inches).

It's just bigger and more in your face (or "detailed" as they say). Recording like that I almost always have to use the bass rolloff on the mic or the pre. But even then, with a good double track, it still sounds bigger and richer than further up the neck.
