didn't you post something the other day with some other LDC that you have?

the only reason i use that particular setup is to get the body/resonance with the LDC, and the string/pick attack with the 81. there's probably plenty of other mics that i could substitute for the AT; it just happens to be my fav. out of what i've got

If you heard me post something it must have been with the SDC Behringer ECM8000. I've heard several clips of the AT4040, and AT4033 and they sound great. So far the clips I hear of the 81 sound great also. So I'm having a hard time deciding.

dalley - Sounds great. Wish I could hear more of the guitar but from what I hear it sounds nice.

I'm still leaning towards getting the SM81 and if for some reason, it's "underwhelming" I can always get an AT in the future.

But how underwhelming can it sound when you're recording a really nice guitar like a Martin D-15? ;) That's what this mic is going to be used for (and also a 12-string) once I've finally got the money saved, which isn't too far off in the future (finally!).

Danny, do you have any good LDC's? I personally have never used an SM81(though I'd love to), but I like to use a AT4040 further back with whatever I feel like closeer up(recently the AKG C 535 EB)..BUT..if i had to chose one or the other, I would definitely go with the LDC. Before the AKG, I used a 57 on the soundhole along with a LDC and have gotten great results. My suggestion would be to invest in an LDC and use whatever you have in conjunction with it.

My favorite acoustic recording I've done was of a $100 samash carlo robelli 6string with a 57 and a SP B1!

Hey,...don't knock those SP B1's...I LOVE them on my Acoustics AND my Vocals ....even over the B3 and C1 (???)

Sorry,..just had to inject that there :)
