Bassman for Funky, Jazzy, Fusiony Rock?

Well I just recorded this clip to a Funky Jazzy kinda backing track. I've never really done anything like this,but I thought it would be a good challenge. Anyway I used my Tom Anderson HDT into my '66 Allen/Master Volume modded Bassman head into a Mesa 1x12 open-back cab loaded with a 4 ohm Celestion V-30 speaker. okay..I have an amp-ignorant question. Isn't a Bassman for basses?:confused:

I have been listening to this a while now, trying to figure out, if I am supposed to be paying special attention to the guitar or the bass...or is the bass programed in with as part of the backing track? Or can you play guitar through a basshead or is it too bassy....Don't mind me...I am the amptarded one.:D

True, Bassman heads were intended and made for bass players. Guitarists back in the day found out that they were good sounding guitar amps. My had been heavily modded to sound Great strictly as a guitar amp. Both sides of the amp are modded specifically for guitar tones.I hope this clears things up for you.:D

Thanks Tex...yes it does clear things up. :D

I love the tones you got with it. Did you track the same lead guitar on two tracks w/ different tones or two different guitars?

Same guitar on 2 different tracts. I used the same exact tones and same exact guitar. I just sounds different cause of the natural chorusing effect you get when you harmonize guitar tones and they're just a hair off. :D

Tex...the effect is great!! I have learned two new things tonight..about the bassman ampheads and the natural chorusing effect...so my 30 some thousand post, are not all blowing in the wind after all....:D

I checked out the Tom Anderson guitars earlier too. I had never heard of them...or a Hollow Drop Top...heard it called that. I have seen chambered guitars before. From the clips you have posted, with the Anderson it has my curiosity up about them. Do you have a pic of that particular guitar, you could post for me to have a look at...?

Thank you Tex!!....That is one little bad ass looking guitar. I had viewed the first pic, when you posted the clip of the mini marshall...but not had a close look. The quilting is awesome on it and the shade of red too.


How long have you been playing the Anderson? I am never sure about the tones...if it is more the amps or the guits ...(other than the player)

Thanks True, I really do love this guitar, and have bonded with it since I bought it new in 1999. It's my main gigging and recording guitar, and I guess if something works why mess with it.:D

Such good advice Tex...."If something works, why mess with it"....That is most likely my biggest fault, being drawn to the many different tones, looks and feel of guitars. Why can't I just concentrate on one, great sound, look and feel... and be done with it...? I'd bet, the accomplishment level in my playing would greatly improve, with that attitude. ...I sometimes feel, like a dood partying at the playboy mansion...wanting them all, but never deciding on just one....and I'm not even a dood....:eek::D





So much to learn and so little time....maybe old dogs CAN learn new tricks.

Maybe you should try to more of a "ONE WOMAN" type of guy. You might be rewarded by REALLY getting to know your equipment and making the best of it.
You gotta really know someone well before you can truly understand them.:D
