I have digital voice recorder Olympus WS-200S, and have problem with it, when i hold it in my hand while recording i always got noise on recording when i move my finger on uint, it picks up every scratch and i can hear how it records buttons i click, and its almost impossible to put it in the pocket because theres so much noise on recording if you even slightly move.

I came across solution to buy external mic, they offer Olympus ME-15 Microphone (mono), but descriptions saying "To record your own voice or from other people nearby." i actually want to know if theres better choice of mic that can catch sound from larger distance and wont record that much noise if i scrath it a little while holding or wearing.

Dictaphone specs:
Input Level: -70 dBv
Sampling Frequency: Stereo 44.0kHz, 64kbps /Mono 44.0kHz, 32kbps
Overall Frequency Response: Stereo :100-15,000Hz/Mono:100-12,000Hz
Microphone jack (stereo): ø3.5 mm jack, impedance. 2 kΩ or more.

First one Mono, Price 25$.

Type: Electret condenser microphone
Directionality: Non-directional
Frequency response: 100 - 12,000Hz
Sensitivity: -42dB at 1kHz (0dB = 1V/Pa)
Output impedance: 2.2kOhm
Power supply: Plug-in-power system (1.5V . 10V)
Cord length: 1m (3.3ft)
Output Plug Type: 3.5mm Monaural mini-plug

Second mic Mono. Price 10$

type: electret microphone
frequency response: 20 - 16000Hz
sensitivity: -65 ± 3dB
output impedance: low
directivity: omnidirectional
cable length: ± 4m

Third mic Stereo, the only con it comes with bettery holder which is somewhere at middle of cord. Price 25$.

includes a windscreen to avoid "pop" noise and a low-noise cable to reduce signal distortion
mono and stereo operation selectable
transducer principle: back electret condenser
frequency response: 100Hz - 16kHz
pick-up pattern: cardioid
sensitivity: -68 dB
impedance: low
signal cable: 3m with 3.5mm or 6.35mm stereo phone plug
power supply: 1 x 1.5V AA cell (type UM-3)

P.S. I have no idea how to read this specs can someone give me advice which one can pick up sound from greater distance?

judging from the specs of the lavalier microphone I am guessng that the recorder has a mono plug, no plug-in-power and an unbalanced connection. so you are limited to electret and dynamic microphones or to get microphone power through a separate box. But ther are a LOT of dynamic and electret microphones that could meet your need with the right cable. So you get into questions of how much you want to spend, how bulky you are willing to have the microphone be, and so forth.

I actually live in very small town and have limited choice here, there is stereo mic from Olympus that works wihout external power that cost $59.99 with specs:
Type: Stereo electret condenser microphone
Microphone dimensions: 38(L) x 14(B) x 40(H)mm
Plug: 3.5mm stereo
Frequency Response: 100 – 15,000 Hz
Directivity: Uni-directional x 2
Mike Sensitivity: -40db at 1 kHz
Output Impedance: 2.2kOhms
Power Supply: Plug-in-power system (1.5V - 10V)

But i actually do not care if its stereo or mono all i need is record conversation with other people or lectures, and dont want to spend more than 25$ on mic.

So as i uderstand more Sensitivity it has, the better recording distance?

Microphone Madness http://www.microphonemadness.com/ has good stuff. I've a MM-STM1 which i use powered on voice recordings, and unpowered on rehearsal recordings (w/iRiver IFP). Excellent sound. Snoop around the net, you'll find them cheaper.
