1941 Kay Orchestra Model Upright Bass, $800
Stable and Playable. Cosmetically well used, but nothing horrendous. Missing one ear, but no cracks or anything serious in the body. Has The common Kay neck break, which has been repaired and dowelled, and is stable, and has been for the 12 years I've owned it. Action is set pretty high, needs setup and some work eventually, hence the price.

I have been gigging this bass weekly for some time, and it's been up to the job-- my skills are starting to get to the point where I need to move a step up, and I've found just the thing at a local shop, so looking to sell!

Teac X10R RTR in top condition, no take up reel, $150. I got this along with a bunch of LPs and some hi-fi speakers from an old fella. I don't think I'll ever really get into mixing down to it, although it would be ideal.

Newer Model SWR Workingman's 12 combo. Asking $225. Ext spkr out, DI, great SWR tone for small/med gigs or in the house/studio. Works 100%, gigged 10 times and out to rehearsal about fifteen times. No scratches tears or wear except on the handle, which works fine.

Peavey TNT 130 $180.
Rock solid loud and versatile combo with fully parametric mids (!). Never had an issue with it, and cosmetically very good for an '80's amp.

Cerwin Vega D3 speakers. Good condition. Professionally re-surrounded in original orange. DCM KX10 Series two speakers, mint. On craigslist, I had $80 on the Cerwins and $140 on the DCM, but I'll take offers here.

I've also got a bunch of rack amps-- three open chassis four space monsters with point to point wiring and huge transformers that once powered my large high school's PA system and Auditorium PA. Also one 3 space more conventional mono power amp, 120 watts, but I'm sure that's a pretty conservative rating. Working, but so big that they're probably best used for parts or installation projects. $30-40 each, discount for the lot.

Pics here, feel free to browse. http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb84/westhavenmusician/

Most of these items are heavy, so I'm thinking pickup or delivery or meet halfway somewhere in the NYC-Boston corridor-ish...

Cheers, Joe

I'm not an expert on Kay, but I would think that's a great price for one. Sooooo many bad Chinese basses out there - someone who wants a bass should leap at this. Hell, I've got a great bass and I'd buy it if I were closer to you. Edit: Looked at the photos - she's pretty rough, but if the repairs are solid it's a good bass for someone.

What kind of bass did you find? Since you're in CT, did you go see Arnold?

Man, I wish I could think of an excuse to buy that, but even with a place to put it, I don't have the spread :(

You're right-- this is not really a miracle price on a Kay, as it shows its age. But if someone wants to invest their money in something more than the cheapies, something that's worth fixing up or even keeping for the long tun, this is a good way to go.

There's a cheap blonde over at upton that caught my eye... I'm going to call Arnold to see if he has anything in my range-- I can't quite do a New Standard or a UB Hybrid.... sigh.... unless someone picks up this bass from me...

It is a little rough--- the pics don't capture what's beautiful about it so much, tho.

I think the idea for a buyer would be to buy it and play it for a while, and upgrade and restore as he/she went. It's playable, just not so much up the neck, and I'm ready to move up a little...

I'm trying to figure out a way to pick up a bass and still keep this one and have it restored.

MSHilarious...

Heh, I'd work out trade for mics plus (some) cash if I weren't in need of raising cash for another bass!

:D

heh. well... my studio is sure hurting for mics! ;) Actually, just about everything you offer I could use. I'm even a harmonica player. If you really were interested in adding cash similar to what I'm looking at getting in trade from the shop, it might be a cool thing. :) Or it might be completely silly.:rolleyes::p

It's been a whole summer of gear shake up at any rate, so I'm always willing to think about options.

Let me see if there is anyone who can use it for what I'm asking, though.

I'd love that TNT...got a thing for the older Peavey gear. Unfortunately don't have the cash. Great deal though.

Have you listed it on talkbass? I expect it won't be long before it gets picked up. I am waiting for business to pick up in the fall before I've got money to buy stuff.

Hey! I had that Peavey amp back in the day. I used my Peavey 2x12 guitar cab with it, biamped. I had chorus and verb on the guitar amp, so I could run an effects sound, plus I could switch over to the lead channel for that Chris Squire sound. That rig was LOUD. Audiences feared me! :)

Yup, plenty of interest over in TB. Both the DB and the TNT are those old standbys that I totally fear that I'm going to regret selling, but I need a bass with a different setup to gig on, and have to move them.

Getting lots of love on the Peavey on both boards... can I quote you in my TB ad on the TNT? That's an excellent way to set it up. I should rock out with my VT-22 hooked up before letting it go! :bassist: :D

Yeah, go ahead.

I played some basses at Upton. I can't afford anything from Arnold yet... the looks of the Cleveland are definitely my thing, and if it sounds as described, that would be my sound as well. The Hawkes is a decent ply, and a definite step up from the Medio Fino that they had as their previous model-- I played both side by side. Anyhow, Upton had a bass set up and ready to go, that they were willing to send me out the door with. Most of the time there is a 2-3 month wait for a bass.

I love mojo, and I love the tone, so I'd rather have my Kay up and running 100%, but I have a dozen gigs in the next two months... so having it in for repair is tough. I can do gigs on electric, but most of the places that hire us really want the atmosphere generated by a DB in the band. I hate to be a decoration like that, but... hey, it brings in the pocket money.

(edit) oh I guess I already answered leddy's question... duh.

might be interested in a rack amp or two, can I get some more info and pics on them?

What do you suspect shipping would be to Wheelersburg, OH 45694?

Rick-- I just got to them... my wife and I have declared Sundays computer free days. It was nice to take a break. We don't have TV either, so it was especially peaceful.

Apples-- the big rack amps that would have been best for parts have been sold. There is one left, a Rauland model. It would be a beast to ship, as it's a full weight amp designed for installation, not portability. probably 40 bux.
