I still haven't finished this but the band only has a few things to do, but they haven't gotten back to me about scheduling anything yet.. So I thought I would get everyone's opinion on it, see how it's shaping up. They're good friends of mine, and this is the second time i've recorded them. Fucking good band.

In my opinion it's the best i've done on a recording, and it's the last for now. I'm selling most my shit, and upgrading, so I will be out of the game for a while until I can save enough money to revamp my studio (home studio, haha).

Once again, I would really appreciate any critiques, comments, feedback, listening, etc. Thanks in advance dudes. =]

Peace!

Sounds friggin awesome to me, considering the chains were that simple!..

I'd lift the bass a little bit, or add some bottom to it... but hey, I'm a bassist. Nice job.

Sounds fucking ace to me lad :D

The guitar's G string is a bit off tune in the beginning.
(problem on most of the guitars)
Thats about the only nit I can pick on atm :)

What samples did you use for the snare/kick?

The kick was one of the ones that came with Drumagog, but I doctored the shit out of that. I think I used 2 compressors, EQ, etc.

The snare was a free one that someone on this board posted. It's a Pearl Sensitone I believe, fucking great sample. Whoever posted that pack with the 2 snares and 2 kicks, thank you!

Ya, still toying with the levels on the bass, ha. I think I had to cut some of the low end off the bass because it stared to sound a little muddy, but i'll definitely mess with it.

..And that's what I was thinking about the Chain, I thought it was good for having such a simple set up, haha. =]

Peace!

It's great dude. Why sell your shit when you're getting results this good?

Thanks man. =] But i'm selling my stuff to get better stuff for sake of hassle. Right now i'm recording drums into Cubase using my Firepod, then I bounce the drum tracks into Pro Tools, and go from there using my MBox.

Now, I want to skip that whole thing and just record directly into Pro Tools, ha.

So i'm getting a Digi 002, and then possibly an Onyx 800R. This way I can record all my drum tracks into PT, and do everything from there. I will also have better preamps, and more options for stereo.

Anyway, thanks for the listen dude. =]

Peace!

To me it sounds real muddy. Too much happening in the same low frequencies. :o

Ya, you're right. Any suggestions? I've dipped out some unnecessary frequencies in the Bass / Guitars. Any certain ones I should be trying?

Thanks for listening. =]

Peace!

My suggestions would be to alter the arrangement. You have a lot of competition, maybe take the guitars up in pitch, etc. There doesnt seem to be a whole lot of high frequencies in the drums, but a whole lotta kick. There is only so much room down there, plus the screamo vocals are fairly low. I dont think you can eq carve your way out of it.:D

It reminds me of a piece for 8 cellos. When I read on the program that a piece for 8 cellos would be played I thought "this is gonna suck, 8 low instruments competing". Well, the composer wrote 4 of them in higher registers.:D My guess is if you get more high end outta the drums, it might balance out.

I think this song is a finished product. Sounds great. Wipe the spit off the mic, would ya? I can hear those details in the vocal track. :D

I think I have to respectfully disagree with DavidK, it doesn't sound muddy, I hear each part clearly. I'm not much into this kind of music, but I did save the download. ;)

Sounds damn good to me. With this type of metal I'm used to hearing a bit more of that clicky pluck to the bass guitar though. To me it doesn't sound muddy but that kick is definately the prodominant thing on the drums there. Try getting those cymbals mixed in a bit better. Overall sounds real good though. It's amazing the sound that can be had from the less expensive equipment. I also use a Firepod(2 of them actually).

Nice drums sound! :D

What samples are you using on Drumagog (external library or the ones that came with it)?
