I am way out of touch.

It's not really a matter of whether an amp sim works with your interface. It's whether the interface works with your computer and Reaper, and whether the amp sim works with Reaper. It sounds like your interface is nice and stable, and Reaper is pretty good about compatibility with most VSTs. So I think you'll be OK as long as you're using an operating system that agrees with your UX2 drivers.

The big-name amp sims that I know of are AmpliTube (IK Multimedia), POD Farm (Line 6), and Guitar Rig (Native Instruments). There are dozens of others, all with varying price tags. I hear good things about Peavey's Revalver, which you'd mentioned above.

Cheers. Will see if I can get some demos before I decide on one. I'll probably end up staying with gearbox for at least another year!!!

As a guy who did quite a bit of recording with a Pandora, the current upgrade is this:

Or this:

Either one of those machines does what the PXR4 does- a lot better, and a whole lot more of it. Hand held phantom power with XLR ins, interchangable stereo mic capsules, a 2.5mm stereo input, and plug-in power. Exports analog, WAV, or MP3 files, and can be used as a computer controller, or as a standalone recorder. There's nothing wrong with the idea of a handheld multitracker. The available accessory kit gives you a remote control, a mini-tripod stand, and a handle mount which doubles as a pistol grip to decrease handling noise. Even if you own a full-on recording rig, the little sucker has a bunch of uses.
