The decline in desktop PC sales is beginning to ripple throughout the industry, as Intel has revealed plans to wind down its desktop motherboard division over the next three years. According to AnandTech, the company will release boards that are based on the Haswell architecture before completely suspending development. Moving forward, Intel will instead focus its efforts on creating form factor reference designs for the Ultrabook, tablet and desktop markets.

yeah and they don't make vinyl anymore either ...... oh wait, it's the only growing segment of physical music sales.
There will be desktop PCs around as long as anyone wants onbe.

Seeing as Intel didn't make the GREATEST motherboards out there, this isn't that big a deal. EVGA and ASRock are still doing really well for themselves... The desktop isn't dead, just Intel's motherboard division.

I've been building desktop PCs for decades and Intel have never been on my preferred list of motherboard makers. ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI... yes desktop PCs are becoming less common and laptops will be more common, but Desktops are not going away. CPU development is really being driven by the PC game market these days as much as anything else, and serious gamers will never use laptops because of poor video and CPU performance vs. what a desktop can do.
