    power conditioner

O.K. I'm thinking of getting a power conditioner for my little home studio setup(DAW and a couple synths). My main priority is RFI/EMI filtration and some surge protection. I have pretty decent power in my area and am not worried about brown out protection or being able to run my stuff for...

    which preamp for keyboard

O.K. I've been trying to record my xv-88 (specifically the piano expansion board) but I just haven't gotten a hot enough signal and I've also gotten some noise. I've got mogami cables and good connectors and the noise is not from the AC. I have been running the line outs straight into my mia...

    noisy synth

I have a roland xv-88 and i love it. I have been trying to record the srx-02 piano board, which i also love. the only problem is that i record with the volume on the synth all the up and i think the synth itself is generating noise. i am going to explore a noise isolation filter for my ac...

    cables

I'm recording a roland xv-88 using cakewalk on a p4 1.3G with a mia soundcard. Mostly I'm recording lightly layered piano or solo piano with the piano expansion board. This piano board with a few of the xv's effects is exactly the sound i want, but when i record it it is sounding a little bit...

    be careful

I'd give serious thought to purchasing anything from alesis. i bought monitors that worked for about two weeks and then one stopped powering up. sent them to alesis FIVE MONTHS AGO and have not yet heard a thing from them, despite my persistent calls. I'm not really happy considering i spent...

    cw noise reduction

I'm recording right from my synth into my mia soundcard while running cakewalk. I'm still getting a little noise I'd like to try and eliminate, that I guess is coming from the synth (or maybe better cables would help? -what kind and where?) Anyway, I don't think Cakewalk pa9 has any noise...

    recording solo piano

Does anyone have any suggestions about recording solo digital piano. I'm recording from a roland xv-88 with piano expansion card into cakewalk on my pentium IV, 640 mb ram system through an echo mia soundcard on balanced inputs. Specifically, I don't really want to go crazy with processing or...

    Noise Floor Reduction

I'm recording from a roland xv-88 into my mia soundcard in cakewalk. I'm getting a little more noise than I would like that i guess is simply coming from the xv-88. I don't see any way to reduce it on recording, so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to reduce the noise in cakewalk or...

    24/96 for cd?

Should I even bother recording in 24/96 if my intent is to burn to cd. Right now I am and then converting to 16 bit. I think I'm at least going to change to 24/44.1, but does anyone have any thoughts on what is best for best end result on cd. Sound quality is all I care about here.

    free external software mixers?

Does anyone know where I can download a good free external software mixer that will be compatible with my echo mia soundcard? I need something to push my low levels up, but certainly only need something very basic and good. Any response would be appreciated.

    recording and burning piano tunes

I'm recording solo piano pieces from my xv-88 into cakewalk in 24/96. I've got the mixes sounding the way I want, but when I change the format to 16 bit, mix down and then try to burn to cd, you can hear a distinct sort of high rattle-like sound accompanying each hammer strike. It's not there...

    raising piano volume

I'm trying to record some solo piano from a roland xv-88 into cakewalk 9. I've got the input on my echo mia soundcard mixer all the way up and the volume on the xv-88 all the way up and i still can't get my level to 0db. I don't want to have to normalize to fix this problem because when i do...

    external mixer

I'm recording a roland xv-88 straight into an echo mia soundcard in cakewalk pro audio 9 on a pentium 4 1.3 gig. Do I need an external mixer? What are the advantages of having one? Right now, I've got the mia input levels cranked b/c i know that's necessary to really reach 24 bit recording...

how do i get my stuff back

I bought a pair of m1 actives a little while ago. anyway, they worked for about a week and then one wouldn't power up for mysterious reasons. i called alesis and they told me to take it back to the store. i did but they didn't have anymore. they said they'd try to fix it but couldn't. that...

    buffers

any advice on what i should set me buffers at. the cakewalk manual doesn't help much with this. I know i need to set it in multiples of 3 but do i go high or low. I'm recording in 24/96 from a roland xv-88 to a mia soundcard on a pentium 4 1.3 gig system. Also, i know this is stupid, but is...

    input levels

I'm recording from my roland xv-88 onto CW pro audio 9. I know that I need to come as close as possible to maximum with my inputs without clipping for the best signal. But even with my volume on the synth all the way up and my input level on my MIa soundcard all the way up, some sounds still...
