If all this practicing is to become a 'great' drummer and not that you truly love the craft, you are wasting your time. Life is too short. You shouldn't have to say, "oh hell, its time to practice and I'll probably sound like crap". If the drums aren't enjoyable to you, then you need to find...
If you really want to get a feel for NP's abilities, listen to the Exit Stage Left album. All live performances. For the most part, I think he has to be unconscious while playing....how could a normal human be able to do all that stuff while in their right mind. No doubt about it, Peart...
Hey guys, I'm look for a specific drum sound for one of my originals. If you are fimiliar with the Metallica tune "Unforgiven", the snare at the very beginning has a distant sound and maybe alot of reverb. The snare almost sounds like it is played at a far distance although I know that's not...
first-things-first. You've gotta ditch that soundcard. You can get an Emu 0404 for about $75 - $90. Next get a decent inexpensive mixer like a Behringer 1212 (Ebay for about $70), then get a couple of used Shure SM57's (ebay for around $50 each). The board has phantom power so you won't have...
I usually try post nothing but helpful and encouraging comments on this board; however, you need to get the @*$@ out of here. And one more thing smart boy! I'm 133!
Amen on killing the direct recording. You get a much better sound using the amp & mic. Don't get me wrong, direct recording is not bad method if you know what you're doing.
If you are using a metal snare, the problem is definately tuning related and you should use a good muffle ring. drop the tuning a notch and try the ring before you do anything else. I had the same problem and that fixed me right up.
I've recently gone to muffle gels and they seem to work as...
If you're using the line out of your amp to record distortion guitar the level of distortion will be much harsher (if that's a word) than if you mic'd the amp. I got stuck on that one for several weeks before I tried it with the mic and it worked out much better. Especially for playing metal...
First off, you mentioned using Guitar Tracks. You should be able to get a pretty decent sound from that program unless you are using the line out on your amp. If that's the case, try using a quality mic with a decent mixer so your chain will look like.......Guitar, Amp, Mic, Mixer, interface...
I pretty much use the same setup as you described with the exception of 4 mics for the drums and I mic the guitar and bass amps. If you are serious about making decent quality demos, you need to hold off on buying anything right now until you can save up a little more money. And, take it from...
Face it guys...we now live in a society of text-messengers who aren't concerned with using proper grammar. A text-messenger can talk faster with his hands than his mouth. In order to speed up their conversation, they've developed a new language of abbreviated words, which for us, is complete...
Holy CRAP!!!! Wicked is a pirate!!!! You know how I could tell? He used those dreaded words....(paraphrased) "hey guys, I'm really new at this and I was wondering if you can share some of the knowledge you've accumulated". That's a sure sign of a PIRATE alright!!!
Wicked, sorry your very...
replacing your interface is not a solution to being able to plug in more than two mic's. Long-story-short....just get a small 8 - 12 channel mixer (usually for around $75 -150 bucks) and use the CUBASE. Cubase is all the multitrack recorder you'll need right now. If the PC is truly crappy as...
