Well thanks for the hint, I did my research and I'm picking up a Zoom H4 for $200 tomorrow from a guy on craigslist, not a bad price even for a quick idea recorder, but it can do oh so much more!

The electric parts are very soothing, the acoustic isn't bad but I don't really feel much inclined to keep listening to the acoustic after a while, it just gets a bit dull. Very nice sounding recordings though!

What should I get to record digitally and later move the tracks to PC via USB or firewire, right now I'm thinking of an MR8HD, any opinions on it or any others?

Hey that's clever! I've been thinking about making a cheap-o one, it seems you pretty much need to be able to solder and that's about it :p And pretty much any sound used properly can sound good.

Does anyone have or play Theremin? And have you built your own?

Haha yeah, it's got a bit of a belt drive issue though because every once in a while the tape just slows down during recording so my recording ends up sounding like a slow-mo movie scene. It's fun messing with analog, but I will be relieved when I go o digital :P

Yeah I've really been digging it, it picks up so much, very sensitive, which is a very good thing and it's got a very nice range.

Okay, this is what I pretty much figured but I just wanted to see if there was anything else I might be missing. I'm planning on getting a Fostex MR8HD, but I'm not sure how good the preamps are on it and the mic sound would probably be pretty empty without a mixer.

What's is the difference in getting a standalone preamp versus getting a mixer with built in preamps? I have been looking at mixers as they have a lot more versatility for more than just mic'ing, so what's the verdict?

I understand that drum machines are likely frowned upon, although consider I have neither the time, space, money, or place to have actual percussion, what would be the best drum machine for a reasonable price? (doesn't matter how old it is, so long as it is good; and I've actually heard that...

Lol, no she was trying to give me a 4 track for free, she wouldn't take even $15 so I finally said that I'd give her $5 because I didn't want it for free. And she bought the mic new, so she knew the value. Anywho, I'm happy, she's happy, we're all happy :).

Lol, well it turned out she was in a wheelchair and seemed a bit out of sorts, however I've got news. You guys were right, it wasn't a true SM 58, it was a true BETA 58 and I scored it for $40!

I'm pretty much ecstatic because I just scored myself a Shure BETA 58 for $40 today and a free Yamaha MT100 Cassette 4 track for another $5, I'm pretty much doing a dance on the inside. It sounds like beauty, so sensitive, and so sweet.:D
