I have a Star Classic Maple kit and for years I have played basic rock and jazz... some country with them. I have always used plain old coated single ply heads and they sound great... However, I have a new project now which is much more tom heavy (lots of ride patterns on the toms... very prog...
I am looking to swap out the stock speakers in my Laney for a Greenback... however... their seems to be a difference in price of $100 between the 20 and 25 watt version of the G12M. What's the difference? I imagine the 20 watt breaks up at lower volumes... anything else to care about of note?
I just scored an MD421 on ElBay looking to use it specifically on my floor tom. In other's experience, how have you positioned this mic and set the roll off? Not that I won't experiment myself and listen, but I am curious as to what others do and why. My floor tom always sounds a little too...
What the? I am trying to do a mix down. I have the left and right markers set but it seems that only like 30-50 seconds gets processed and there is like 5 minutes selected. Have I set some screwy region thing that causes it to only mix down the first 30 or so seconds? The really odd thing is...
This weekend will be the first time I record an upright bass for a jazz combo. Any suggestions as to types of mics to use or placement? I thought about perhaps a mix of an omni and maybe a dynamic (SM7, MD421 or the like) closer up near the fret board to get pluck. What have others used with...
I never thought I would post a thread like this... but I am looking for suggestions to fill holes in ye olde mic cabinet and I am hoping for suggestions of mics I had not thought of. Budget isn't really an issue to a point ($2k or less). I am also much more interested in a few really useful mics...
This question isn't as stupid as the heading makes it out to be. Is there a way to setup a bus, hit record, and new tracks are created automatically for each input? For instance, I hate having to create 8 new tracks, arm them, choose a bus for each track, and then hit record. For instance, if I...
I have heard from many sources that Canare star quad is very good cable and I figured I would give it a whirl. Does anyone have experience with wiring this? It essentially has 5 conductors.... a ground a two pairs. I assume the ground/shield is treated as with any cable, but is there anythign...
I am in the market for a new stage condensor or two (Beta 87, Rode S1, Sennheiser e865, AKG C5900m, etc.) as some might have seen in another thread. What do you like and why? (or what do you hate and why) I am specifically looking for something to reproduce vocals for jazz, classical, and...
Perhaps I will be brow beaten for this... but why is the SM58 such a standard? I run FOH quite often and I find 58s to be the muddiest, low mid heavy, New York subway announcer, icky proximity effect mics in a "pro" level stage mic. (Not that they are the worst, as those 5 mics for $50 things...
Here is a little article I wrote on building some very simple bass traps for small rooms like most of us have to mix in. I would have put this in the Studio Building area, but it seems it is pretty dead over there and this might get more use over here. Hopefully this is useful for some folks...
A while back folks were asking about mounts to use for stereo configs. Some one had posted a link to a compnay that makes mounts ideal for this. Anyone have that link? The search on this board pulled nothing. Does this board eat postes after so much time has passed?
