Help with Speed on XR-7

Hey guys, I just purchased an XR-7 and the tape seems to be running about twice as fast as it should be. There is a pitch control on the unit, but that doesn't change it enough. Any ideas? Is this a setting Im missing, or is this unit broken?

I am clueless about recording, I owned a Tascam PortaII several years ago, but only recorded about 4 tracks on it . . . . . so speak clearly and slowly into the microphone!

I don't know anything about the unit. Have you checked the manual about the speed of the take up reel? If anything, I would call the customer service or go online and let them know. It may just be made to travel that fast.

Hi.

I have an XR-7. It is a double-speed recorder/player; but there is a button combination you can press to make it record/play at normal speed. I have the manual at home, so I will post when I find the information.

By the way, if/when you start a new "project", you should definitely use the double-speed, as the quality is noticeably better.

Anyway, to switch to normal speed, while the tape is stopped, press the Rehearsal button and the Stop button simultaneously. The rehearsal indicator should start flashing. Now you are in normal speed mode.
