Zoom 505II noise with AC

Hey hey,

I picked up a Zoom 505II recently and play with my Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I like some of the patches in this little box (some less than others though :) ), but it eats batteries really quickly.

So I went to my local RadioShack and picked up an AC/DC adapter. It's pretty noisey after switching from batteries to adapter - I figure the input line is acting like an antenna and picking up the AC adapter...

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I just pick up a better shielded patch, or should I go pick up the Zoom AC adapter? Only the distortion patches seem to be the most affected badly, and when I start playing, its not such a big deal, but still :)

Thanks,
Dave

I have a 506II for bass. Although I record with batteries, when I am practicing I will use an adapter which originally went to an old Ibanez pedal. It works fine, so I'm thinking your problem could very well be the AC adaptor you got at radio shack (especially if other appliances work ok in that outlet).. I suspect that it could be the wrong voltage specs, though I am not really knowledgeable about electronics.

Do you have another AC adapter you could try? If not, I would suggest forking over the extra cash for the Zoom adapter.

does the 505 2 offer a znr (zoom noise reduction). my 606 and my gfx8 do. im not sure if the 505 does though, it realy helps alot. heres one thing you can try and it may help. take and plug your adapter into a multi plug in strip one of those that has all the goodies it may be your outlet is not grounded good enough and distortion just amplifies the noise, does it do it when you play with a clean patch? it may be your pickups are reacting to the outlet your lugging into and the distortion is just realy pronounceing the noise badly. just a few suggestions and i hope it helps feel free to email me if none of that works for you and ill see what i can come up with my dad is a electrician. flash2ace@yahoo.com

AC is notorious for adding noise into the equation. Batteries are better.
