I heart guitars!
My pair of ECM8000s arrived today. I doubt they'll ever replace my AT4033 and Solidtube, but the sound quality from a pair of mics I paid £25 each for is simply staggering.

Thanks to everybody on here who's ranted and raved about them. Bargain of the decade. No question!

I don't even need a pair of them, but they are such a good deal that I feel like I SHOULD buy a set--if for no other reason than to join the club! :-)

Phildo, where did you get yours? An Internet store?

Regards,
/Henrik, Sweden

Hey, a pair of good, small omnis can come in really handy sometimes. I'm always amazed by how many uses I find for omnis; when nothing else sounds right, often the omnis will do the job.

Do you already have a pair of small omnis, crawdad? I don't mean omni as in one of the patterns on a multi-pattern mic, which ain't quite the same thing.

Hey Valdemar (I'm going to refer to your handle since your real name is the same as MY handle, and my real name),
I just ordered mine from here. They cost 42 Euro, about 400 SEK. Pretty much the same as the americans are paying.

Thanks to H Kuhn I also discovered these great German online stores:

http://www.musicians-gear.com/
http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/tho0000.html

http://www.musik-produktiv.de/home/home01.asp?sid=16022002163929880779-5GWA25XBS8R54G9M2G3T9

Since we're members of the EU, we only pay German sales tax (16%), and no custom's fees.

Cheers
/Henrik

Harvey--No. I don't own any omni's at all, but, like I said, the price is so reasonable, I think I may buy a set anyway. Other than as drum overheads or perhaps miking a choir or orchestra, what other applications do omnis work well for?

Acoustic guitars, banjos, mandolins, violins, flutes, percussion instruments (tambourines, guiros, chimes, bell trees, maracas, congas, bongos, etc.) vibes, marimbas, glockenspiels, string quartets, and pipe organs, just to name a few.

If it's "weird" or if I want a realistic, very accurate sound, my first thought is usually to reach for a small omni; I seldom regret it.

Henrik - sorry to reply so late...

I got mine from www.thomann.de - they're a damn cheap store, and postage to the UK is £12 regardless of the size of order. They do really good pices on leads & looms & stuff, too.

I've already recommended the ECMs to a friend who's just bought a DAW and can't afford any "real" mics.

I'm tempted to get some more, simply because they're such great value!

Once again, thanks Harvey for the info on omni's. The ECM8000's are one G.A.S. syndrome fix that won't hurt too bad. You know, I'm almost afraid to look here sometimes, because every time I do I hear about something else I want. Right now, its a pair of Behringer omni's, a 603, a V67 and a great pre-amp! (yes, I have plans to actually use all these mics!)

By the way, Harvey (and anybody else who's listening), I am so pumped about my new MXL V93 after tracking my Tele through an amp yesterday. In the past, I almost always used a Shure 57 or beta 57. The 4033 never sounded right to me. This track I cut with the the V93 yesterday is the best recording of my electric guitar I've done in 25 years! I am amazed. Its this kind of result that makes me more passionate about recording. My purchase was largely influenced by your review.

huh? 16%? Is that a typo? WTF? Bend over and slide it in w/o lube.
