Your two cents

The questions are:
What are you recording?
How do you plan to do it?
USB only transmits 2 channels at a time to your computer so you can mix all those channels down when recording and send them to a computer in stereo and cannot adjust anything but the overall sound after.

I am recording my Drum kit. I have converted a Gretsch Catalina Maple kit to electronic using a Roland TD-10.

You should learn about MIDI if you're going electronic.Much more versatile,a lot less headaches in the recording process.Instead of having ten outs going to a mixer you go directly to your computer and can change any sound, any note even the tempo yet still retain your original ideas.

I know MIDI can be scary to newbies but no pain no gain.

i second the midi remark.

the i mean isn't that the point of going electric with the drums?

any way, either mixer will be too much if you wanna do midi.

if i HAD TO CHOSE i would suggest the tascam. better track record. but you should look into the Alesis Multimix 8 usb 2.0

its the newest line from alesis. its a USB that will actually allow you to mix all tracks separately in your DAW. cool huh? i have a multimix 8 1.0 i wanna upgrade simply for drums

I assume that Alesis model does lmit you to transferring two tracks at a time through USB? If they've figured out how to do more, it's a USB break-through!

...its a USB that will actually allow you to mix all tracks separately in your DAW. cool huh?...

yeah it does. I saw it on their website then decided to go down to Guitar Center to research it and it turns out that it wont mix everything down.

Learn how to record the MIDI output from your TD10. You already have all the hardware you need.

If you must record your drums via eight separate mics, plus another mixer that device might work as well. That mixer uses line inputs mainly. No way of knowing if your computer is up to the challenge though.
