Hello. I'm quite interested in home recording and I have a very low budget, around 350$. So I need your help on what should I buy as a beginner in recording.

My list is simple:

Behringer 1202 Mixer (without effects)
Behringer UCA202 USB Interface
Shure SM57 Mic

I guess my computer shouldn't be a problem ( Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 (2.8GHZ), 4GB RAM, ATi Radeon HD4850 1GB, 500GB Hitachi HDD, Asus 22' Monitor, MAG 17' CRT, integrated sound card but that's why i'm getting usb interface )

Thanks :)

DimitarMK,

Right there with you, budget-wise! :)
Wise choice with the SM-57, it's a very versatile mic and has worked well for me considering what little money there was to spend.
Honestly though, if you plan on recording just one/two tracks at a time, I would scratch the Behringer mixer and put money towards a decent Audio interface. There are many out there with 2-4 channels in your price range. I have an M-Audio Fast Track USB with mic and 1/4" in that has done a pretty solid job.

Also, the last Behringer mixer I used did not last very long before 1 channel stopped working. I'd save your money and go with Mackie over Behringer.

I agree. Or if you insist on getting a mixer, why not get one with USB or firewire conversion included. Then you wouldn't need the separate interface. Like this one:

It's pretty generally accepted here to stay away from Behringer gear. Not the most reliable.

Thanks for your sugestions. But, in my country ( Macedonia ) is hard to find quality gear and also its very expensive. For example, Shure SM57 mic is 160$ without cable. The Behringer mixer is 135$. I would prefer a mixer rather than only mic preamp. I would check that Alesis mixer as I'm pretty impressed by my friend's Alesis 1622.

Ugh, I suggest replacing that Hitachi hard drive, or at leaaasssst making sure you have a good backup. I hate Hitachi so much. Their stuff fails on me ALLLL the time. Two optical drives in my xbox 360's, and my laptop HDD.

Sorry if that seemed off topic, but just be wary of Hitachi.

I'm using Hitachi hard-disks for years and I never had a single problem with them.

Anyway, the mixer Alesis suggested in my country costs about 300$ :( and that is way over my budget. :(

I think I would get Behringer 1204 which has USB interface in the package and plus more functions than Behringer 1202. I still need to collect some money for the Shure SM57 Mic :)

My recommendation would be to buy just about anything BUT Behringer. But it's your money.
