Here is a link to two tunes I would like your opinion on.

One - DARP is a piano piece (got a new piano so I just had to play it) that will eventually be a soundtrack I hope to market once all the parts are on it. I would like your opinion on the feel of it as it pretains to you.

The other is "Then Why". This is a rough mix and the vocals are scratch only. Would like your overall feel of the song.

Thanks.

Heres the link.

Hi David!
Man you have some piano chops! No wonder you got a seven-footer - you deserve it!! Really pretty music - wish I could do that!
Soundwise it sounds 'dark' to me - missing some high-end. Now keep in mind, I've been banging on the mandolin all the livelong day and have been listening to some other stuff with screamin' high end so my ears are, no doubt, fatigued.

But on your next tune there are plenty of highs. Nice tune - (you said the vocals are scratch and it's fun to hear someone else's work in progress!!) Nice lead guitar work!! At first blush I like the mix (but I'm not the most experienced guy out here). The rhythm parts are spread nicely for my tastes - builds a big soundstage. (Maybe the vox is a little too much out front - just me.)

Important note - I'm on headphones for both tunes.

Great musicianship all the way around - I wanna hear more on that big bad-boy Samick!!

Nice to meet ya!

David,

On the piano piece, I found it to be very good composition. Do you have plans for it? A big orchestral number or something? Perhaps an independent film producer might be interested in it for theme music in a movie? Very nice stuff.

Recording wise; I heard a fair amount of phasing. Perhaps this was Mic placement. The tone over all was a bit dark but not in any significant way.

On the work in progress piece;

So far it sounds like you have some very solid foundational tracks to work with. The drums, bass and guitars all seem well played and ready to be pumped up in a mix-down when you are ready for that.

The vocals as you say, are scratch so no point in telling you to find another singer or anything that harsh at this point. Lets hear the real vocals and then we can bring out the daggers and chains if necessary. I trust it won't be! :)

Final comment; It almost seems strange that two such radically different tracks could come from the same talent pool. But, it shows true diversity and that's a rare thing these days.

Good stuff! :)

Mc Citarz-

Thanks for the kind words. Yes it is dark and purposefully intended that way. It is to match a orchestra score I am writing.

The Ghost of FM -

Thanks for your kind comments also.

There is a phasing issue but this was done on purpose to try and prepare for an orchestra piece to accompany the tune. I have it already written in my head but haven't laid it down yet.

As for diversity I also have enough country tunes written in my library to do a country album of failrly decent material.

I also helped friend writing christian rock. I have scored a mini opera with another friend.

I pretty much write about whatever affects me. It could be personel experiences, movies or a friends statement.

Again thanks to you both for your comments.

Hi David. Listened to the first tune. Nice bouncy little tune, recorded pretty good man. The playing was good and singing was done well. The harmonies didnt sit quite well with me. Maybe too many parts.

The second tune was nice and played well on your piano. a bump here and there, but put together very well. I think Dr Funaro would like this. I certainly do, and with some accompaniment it would be rich.

excellent piano piece.. I heard some distortion in a few parts.. more like little crackles..

really enjoyed it, playing and tone..

DAVID,

I like the recording quality of "then why" very much.

The true Ace in the hole is DARP.

Beautifully recorded.

The playing is ASTONISHING !

I'm guessing this your composition.

BRILLIANT !

Moves me greatly.

It is nice to know that HR.com is about MANY kinds of music.

Down Loading & dropping 5 for DARP !

What can I say but thanks to you all for downloading and listening.

The piano piece is actually about 10 different ideas for songs that never became songs and when I got the new piano I just sort of set down and out it came.

I plan to re-record it using proper techniques and putting orchestration behind it. When I do I will repost it for everyones opinions.

Again thanks to all for your opinions.
