Hello,

I've been seeing a lot of mixed reactions to OMD's. I feel that they are an excellent way to get your music heard. I know my opinion may be a little biased since I own one but I'm proud of the services we offer for musicians. I also encourage musicians to seek out and find as many sites similar to ours to get their music heard.

There are a ton of bands' sites that I've been to which I never would know existed were it not for finding them on OMD's. This has lead to several CD purchases as well.

So, for those against the cause, may I ask why? I would love some feedback and am plenty thick-skinned so let it rip. :D

I'm more or less indifferent. I can see the theory behind why it "could" be an effective tool, but with SO many people looking to "leech" free music from the web, and in the wake of Napster and it's basterd "children". I don't really see too many people being willing to actually purchase a CD by someone who's not currently being shoved in your face daily on TV in commercials; News and/or reality TV shows (yep - that's you Britney! -- not that she'll ever see that comment)

It seems to me that the only people interested in indie artists are other indie artists... Although Cudos to some of the newer late night talk shows who feature unsigned bands!

mp3.com was a great idea, till it became a circus for people who had absolutely NO talent whatsoever. You could spend hours trolling for something new and fresh and good and come up with nothing... then you find something like BB Chung King and the Buddahheads... these guys ROCK!

The good talent gets burried among a sespool of crap ... unless you're selecting artists based on talent, don't wast your time or hard drive space. Look what happened to mp3.com... they got so big and out of control that they shut down for a while to "restucture" or whatever... to be honest I never went back after seeing the holding place they'd put up "temporarily"... was a waste of time then, probably holds true today.

I realize you're probably looking for a reason to toss out your sales pitch, and it would be spam if were unsolicited, so I'm asking... what do you have to offer ME?

Pitch away - it ain't spam if I asked for it.

Electric blue for me

Wasted electricity

I want some energy

All we need to live today
A gift for man to throw away
The chance to change has nearly gone
The alternative is only one
The final source of energy

Whoops, sorry. Wrong OMD :D :o

OMD's are just a repository and site where people you know can go and listen to your music. The only reason I joined one was to get some feedback from some of the more knowledgable members around here. So I joined Soundclick. Though the hosting there is free and is unlimited, I've become very disillusioned with that site. With the countless problems they've been having lately it's almost a surprise when you can get on there. But since they've changed thier copyright infringement policy there I've taken my music off.

Luckily a guy I met there became a DJ at Songplanet so I just took my tunes over there. It's not unlimited space but it still is free as most as the others are with the same restrictions. I do have a few at Download.com, but I'm thinking of taking those off pretty soon too. They were going to start streaming but they seem to be dragging thier feet.

To me thier almost all the same. Except for some of the sites that have a CD program. Some of them look interesting. I don't know, may have to join another one. :D
