under $100, some that haven't been mentioned:

Behringer C2. Considering that you can get FOUR of them for $100 plus two stereo bars and four stand adapters. Heck, throw away the microphines and call it a great deal on the other stuff.

Anyone know if the capsule in the C2 is any good. Maybe the stock circuit could be replaced? I think I remember someone trying this.

I'd like to put forth the ATM25 as best mic value. Interestly, I don't have either of the mics I listed above any longer. Ha! What a difference a couple years makes.

Under $100:

SP B1
MXL 67

$100 to $300

CAD M179
ADK Hamburg (or Vienna)
Peluso CEMC6

$300 to $600

CAD VSM
ADK TL

over $600

too many to list, but these are the ones I own and use:

Schoeps CMC6/MK4
Microtech Gefell M294
Microtech Gefell UMT800
CAD VX2

Whoever in this thread who can't take a simple joke and has to lower my rep is an idiot. I hate the microphone category because there's always some dumb prick that has nothing else to do but mess up peoples rep. I appreciate all the good people here but i'll never post here again.

2 things....does anyone like the studio projects c4's and number 2, i see two spellings on ok(c)tava....which is correct?

rep don't mean shit. it's a game for most people around here. just pretend like it does'nt exist, because it really serves no purpose at all.

For the $300-600 I'd like to add the Beyer M160 double ribbon mic. wow.

Either one is correct, or if you prefer, neither one. The actual name is spelled with the russian alphabet (cyrillic).

As far as I can see Chris is the only one who mentioned Beyer mics. Let me tell you that Beyer mics are very underestimated mics. I use Beyers for every session, whether it's heavy rock or acoustic.

The M201 is what a SM57 should be, extremely versatile mic, hypercardioid but still a very nice off axis response. The M88 is simply a very great mic, again a hyper and agein a very nice OAR.

The ribbons (M130/160/260/500) are stunning, great mics and these are brighter sounding thhan most other ribbons.

The Sennheisers are great mics as well, the best cheap one was the 409, later 509 and now 609, but the 409 is the best. The MD421 and 441 are desert island mics.

The ECM8000 is not as good as many peeps say, but for it's price it's a good deal.

I don't use any Shure mics anymore, only for rehearsals and talkback.

The SP B1 is a real workhorse, the MXL V69 and V77 are a tad better tho.

But.........Neumanns are a whole different story, so are DPA, Schoeps and Sanken mics, not to mention Gefell, Josephson and that kind of mics.
