I play guitar so I never hold the mic. I actually feel really wierd singing without my guitar... kinda naked. I dont know what to do with my hands if there not playing guitar when I sing... can anybody relate to that? or is it just me?!!

But answer your question. I put the stand to the left and boom the mic out in front of me... that way I have plenty of room for my effects peddals directly in front of me (where I like'm

i leave mine on a stand cause i play guitar too..and ya i agree with the naked feeling singing w/o the guitar..i think a lot of people probably are like that..but one thing that i am kinda different on is that i cant stand using a boom stand..i just use a standard straight stand..im weird

I don't like boom stands on stage either, especially if a sound man has set them up, because the cord is wrapped around it so much that you have to unwrap it, unless you want to stand directly at the stand all the time. Sometimes, you want to have the mic in your hand. Also, the boom stands at bars and such are notoriously loose, no matter how much you try to tighten them, at least that has been my experience. So, you get the droop factor constantly. Cheap-asses. So, if you're weird, I'm weird.


And I don't play anything onstage when I sing, but I wish to hell I did. I think it would be much more comfortable as well. But, no percussive instruments. Tambos are embarrassing, and you get huge bruises on your body (legs, and palms too). I would give anything to be able to play the guitar or piano well enough to do one of them while singing. That has to feel GOOD.

Seriously though, I prefer to hold it in hand. I can't play guitar and sing yet (just learning guitar), and I've been drumming for 12 years and still can't don't feel comfortable singing on the trap set (workin on that too). When doing vocals I really prefer to have the mic in hand. It's easier to control dynamics that way. It gives your hand(s) something to do, and you can really *romance* the mic that way.

...Well, I design & build my own mic stand. Using parts of unused stand I got in garage. I hate the regular wide spread knockdown stand...

Now that I'm using my hammond with the band, I have to change things a bit. I have the the hammond and my paino at a 90 degree angle with the boom stand at the corner of the two. I have to lean over a bit to sing into it, but it seems to work.

Yeah....I fixed it. Bad tube. The chorus still needs work, but it plays.
