Your go-to vocal mic for breathy male vocals

I dont usually listen to rock music, but this track is pretty nice and that mic is pretty dangerous.

If Tony Faulkner uses Rode mics, they cant be too bad

they obviously have some use, because a lot of top-notch engineers in top-notch studios are using their mics

that being said, the answer i'm gonna give is "i dunno"...the only vocal-worthy mics i really have are a 57, NT-2A, and AT-4033, so it'd be one of those

I always considered Eitzel more of a crooner, so I might try a ribbon first. Although, I still stand by my NT-1 recommendation, especially for deep male voices.

Pretty interesting; seems like everyone has their own take on what mic to use. I get the idea that Eitzel has a somewhat difficult voice to record. Listening to the stuff he did on Warner Bros. sounds great, likely due to a nearly unlimited budget and all the perks that come with it. Listening to his recent recordings where there is a considerably smaller budget the recordings don't reflect nearly as well on his voice.

What's odd is that I've heard amazing vocals from a different artist using an AT4033 and sub $1k preamp with amazing results.

My guess is Eitzel's just got a tough voice to record(?) Or they haven't yet found a budget mic/preamp combo that truely suits him(?)

Not odd at all - a great singer with a great voice will sound great with a 57 and a dmp3.

I misunderstood completely, I thought you were trying to de-emphasize the breathy part. 4033 or even a Hamburg would be great
