OK, I can only work on my "serious stuff" for so long before I crack and do something like this one.
I've been working all week on 4 tunes for my CD - and I've had enough. :)
I sat down this morning and penned this one in about 10 minutes; banging on three chords - singing lyrics that seemed to write themselves - (incidentally, if I have stolen someone else's material please let me know - the lyrics came too easily) -
Anyway, I recorded this live with 1 mic (NT1) - just sat down and played it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did - now I gotta get back to work. :)

I thought my copy of FlashGet had gone screwy but I got the same result without it. The filename is in your public directory with a 2 point something MB filesize, but it comes down as 0KB?????
Fix it soon. I've gotta hear this!

Hi Doc, I got the same result with FlashGet, but I was able to get the d/l started through IE5 - I downloaded about 1/4 of it before I quit. Could just be x-drive being screwy. Let me know if you still can't get it - man, it took me about 1/2 hour to upload the thing on my 56k connection. :(

I like it. Some funny lyrics.

What other equipment did you use?

I can really hear the "room" in this one. Some bad reflections coming in, but other that that This is absolutly brilliant! :) This is the first one of your songs that I've heard that I've felt like there needs to be more instruments- add some drums and bass and you've got something really awsome there. I could see you taking this and developing this a little more- actually I'd like to hear a little country in there if you can dig that. :D No seriously! I wish I could just sit down and write a song like that. Thes days writing tunes for me is like pullling teeth- but not as enjoyable.

Hopr the CD comes together soon! I'll take a copy!

why does x drive hate me?...none of the other sites suck as bad...I got 60 seconds of the song, no time-outs no nothing, just finished like it was all there....I liked what I heard, sometimes quick songs are the best....yeah I agree about a little country in there...got a kinda Kristofferson thang goin' on....real clean for a rush job....gibs

xdrive must hate me, too. When I click on any of the files there in the public folder, nothing seems to happen. I tried both IE5 and Navigator.

Ooohhhh. I get it now. You have to hit the Download button. I guess it would have paid me to read the instructions.

Just got it. Marilyn's real excited. I've already written some harmony guitar lines to go with this. If I can get them recorded I'll post the mix. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great Tune!
It's obvious we've gotten the same shit at different times.
The Only Difference:
I'm sure mine met USP specs.
BTW: I've wiped FlashGet. It's history.
Sometimes speed ain't everything. :)

Everytime I try to get something off of Xdrive it crashes my browser so I have to end task everything... man wish I could d/l it.

Glad to E-mail it to you. Let me know.
J Jim has a great piece here.
I've already done 4 takes of acoustic guitar under his acoustic guitar track. Two got lost because I had the input format set up wrong on my TASCAM. But I was just warming up anyway.... right.... :)

Yeah if you could email it to my yahoo account that would be great. Thanks!

That's a good song! I sorta like the room sound, makes it real. Pretty impressive for 1 mic. Nice sounding guitar, what is it? Cello and an upright and you got it made! Just kidding.

Thanks for listening, guys! The slightly out-of tune guitar can get old after awhile, but I think it adds to the tune. :) It's a Yamaha, by the way.

The room sound is actually Sonic Foundry's Acoustic Mirror set up with a "wood floor" impulse - the dry set @ 0dB and the effect @ -13.6dB gives it a little more space and more of a "live sound"

Doc, when you get that mix done, post a link -

Yeah, the CD is coming along much more quickly now - but it's taking a turn for the "different." I keep writing these tunes that I normally would never seriously consider - like today on the way home from work I started writing a tune that covers everything I hate about songwriting, live gigs, and playing music in general. I think I may be on the edge of a breakdown. :)

I think they make a drug for that now. :)
And it won't make ya piss blood.

Wacked little piece o music..

I think I'll have one of those funny tasting brownies now...

bye. ric

Jim,

Fun tune...made me want to listen to Jesse Winchester's "Twigs and Seeds" again. As usual , fine work from you!

Ranger

Somehow I missed this one. I listened to it this weekend. There's a certain character you get with your guitar. You always have that "hypnotizing" guitar going. I like that. You said you just wacked this one out in a few minutes? Man, I wish I could do that. Sounds good as usual.

Are you on some kind of drugs or something man! :D Me like it, acoustic sounds nice and clean, vocals too, although I nearly pissed on myself laughing so hard! Good work jim.

Well Jim. Ask and ye shall receive.
And thanks again for sharing this highly inspirational composition.
Two notes about this "dropping in on your raw mix" attempt. I never really felt confident that I got the changes or the tempo matched to your performance but I think I got close.
It took setting up a separate monitoring bus in Vegas Pro that had a feed to headphones with your track and the one I was recording roughly mixed, while just capturing my acoustic guitar with no bleed from your track on a separate track. The tuning was done using this circuit through some small Advent speakers. Second is that funky scratching squeaky noise at the very beginning and the very end. Sorry about that-
that was the sound of Marilyn fondling my knee about a foot from a pair of Rodents.
The sound of picking up and putting down the guitar.
But my personal imagery induced throughout this project is two yokels sitting in the county Club Fed jamming in adjacent cells.
So a little squeak here and there ain't no big deal.
The Club Fed vacation-
antidote to civilization.

Hey Jimbo,

Great tune... again!!! Dammit, how do you keep coming up with this cool stuff. Your voice, especially on this track, reminds me a bit of John Mellencamp for some reason - does anyone else hear this or is it just me?

Keep up th good work!!

...and thanks to the Doc for emailing to me... bloody xdrive!!!!

Finally heard the whole thing courtesy of doc's idrive...and the unexpected collaboration worked very nicely on the tune...jailhouse meanderings, the birth of white blues..gibs
