Thanks 60's guy, DavidK, rayc, ObeseArmadillo, Dogman, bthiesson, Timothy Lawler, Freudian Slip for listening and the feedback...

I have remixed this again with more of your recommendations.

I brought the bass guitar up a bunch to get that thump I think it had in the original. I can't seem to trap that single note at 1:02 which Mike hits hard - even with my multiband compressor :D

Drums - turned down the highs a touch

Vocals - still the same level as first remix

Guitars - brought them up a bit on rhythm, mainly on the right (there's three guitars).

The Soundclick track (128kps) has been updated - same link so I'll post it here....

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm? bandID=395006&songID=5294332

I uploaded a new (320kps) version to lightningmp3.com - the link below replaces the old link in my first post.

Let me know what you think.....

Thanks!

:D :) :D :)

Hi Gerry,
I listened to the 320 version this time - a good mix for a good song. Perfromance is terrific throughout.
It's odd that what was once rnr tinged with the blues is now coutry blues swing but that's labels for ya.

Hey Gerry,

I love listening to your tunes! On a quick listen I think the drums could do with a little livening up, maybe a slight boost in the upper-mids/, just to give the cymbals and that snare a little crack.
I loved your little solo! :)
How do you have the guitars positioned in the stereo field. I was listening on my pc speakers so I couldn't get a real tight judgement, but if you haven't the guitars may benefit from giving them more of their own little bit of territory. eg pan guitar 1 hard left/guitar 2 hard right and one maybe in the middle but backed off in the volume dept to give it the distant effect. Sorry for ranting! :o

I will come back for another listen shortly. Keep up the good work Gerry, it is always a pleasure listening to your voice and the tunes you put together.

Kev :)

Thanks RAYC and GORTY - yes this has a country/swing type feel to it... The three guitars are panned about 10 and 2 and center with the center down a touch to avoid walking on the vocals. I'll look at tweaking that and the upper mids on the drums.....Thanks again for listening! :)

Hey Gerry,

I'm a big fan of hard panning the guitars left and right, it really gives the guitars some space and really widens out the guitars. Have a play and see what the hard panning does to the guitars........I reckon you will love it!

Gorty :)

I listened to the latest lightningmp3 link youposted and sounds real nice. I found myself tapping my feet as i listened ;)

Very cool soslo indeed (very fitting!)

I do agree with Gorty that the drums could use some more "umph" (is that a word?) Maybe bring them up a bit but other than that great job and nice vocals, I love the regular going to falsetto voice thing (i use it myself a lot)

good job!

The vox are sounding much much better than the first version I heard. I don't know what you did. But it's sounding just rockin'.

The guitar solo is very nice. Those solos are kicking.

Nice intro and outro.

And this time around, I get the feel that vocals have more confidence than the first version I heard. I don't know what you did but it sounds really cool.

I'll try to crank it up when it's daytime to hear it louder. :)

Thanks Cincykid and bigbubba. I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. It must be because everyone around me is sick (at work and at home). Guess I was destined to get it too....I don't feel much like mixing tonight - maybe tomorrow.... thanks again guys.... :D

Thought I'd swing on by and check out some swingin' G and M Project
Makes me want to dance or slither, very catchy and fun tune. Love the bounce on the bass part. I like what you did with it too, since I kept scrolling down and finding new versions.
Vox are excellent too. Maybe a tad more on the rhythm guitar.
Keep up the groove Gerry and don't get sick!! another enjoyable tune :D

Hey Gerry....Sorry it took me so long to get around to listening to this.

I listened to the "Soundclick" version in the first link first. I just finished listening to the Lightning version in the updated link. Your voice is perfect for this. I don't know if the vocals can come down just a fraction of a db, or if slightly turning up the drums would make it perfect to my ears. There's nothnig wrong with this, though. Love the lead sound...and the rythm sound for that matter. The drum beat is great all the way through and the bass is nice and clear.

Great job, man.

Hi Gerry.....I first listened to the Soundclick one and then the Lightning mp3 one...immediately I noticed the sound quality difference betwixt the two! The Lightning mp3 was much better! Much more lows and the overall sound of the mix was much improved...richer and fuller.

It sounds great to me.

I really like the guitar solo and the beat is just right for some dirty dancing. :D

Your vocals are spot on as usual.

True :)

SnakeDog, Rami, True....thanks for listening and the kind words...

I thought I would post a 320KPS MP3 courtesy of lightningmp3.com so people could listen to a high quality mp3. Soundclick is only 128KPS so there is a discernable difference in sound quality. Soundclickis a great service too though...

I think I managed to slide around the cold, because I feel pretty good today. Did some recording that I've was looking to do this weekend....

Thanks Again!

:) :D :) :D

Listened to the new mix. Sounds much better. Drums are right there without being too in your face. I think the vocals may be too loud in spots, but I seem to be the only one that thinks that, so maybe its just my setup.

Overall another great job. :)

I think I need to do some work on the compression on the vocals. I'm not sure whether I need to compressing them more when I record or during the downmix. I'm hesitant during recording though as there's no going back. I guess I just answered my own question.... Thanks guys! :D

I don't know anything about anything, so take my comments with a grain of salt, but I like to do stuff like compression post-tracking for the reasons you just stated. Once its tracked, its tracked. Compression and EQ stuff can easily be undone if you do it after tracking. I'm a terrible singer, so I use volume envelopes and sometimes some pretty heavy compression on my vocal tracks. I have to have it tracked before I can see where it needs help, so I do that kind of stuff post-tracking.
