Hi Guys!

Have been reading a lot about Yorkville monitors from this board and it's really convincing me that these guys are the best in a quality-vs-price scenario. However, going with YSM1P (Active) or YSM1i (Passive) is quite a tough choice. One reason is I have a home theater A/V reciever (Yamaha 6-signal model) and am using it together with Energy speakers on the mix for some times and it's working fine. The other reason is YSM1i is $200 cheaper....

The question is...using YSM1P is gonna be significantly better than using YSM1i with commercial home theater or not. Let's say more than 50% better....if you can quantify it....due to its price is about 50% more expensive. Anyone who use the latter combination could help me here, please.

Thanks!
Bill

Yo D-Bil:

I would suggest that your choice between the active/passive Yorks is a matter of power.

Since the actives have a power source, do you need that power source?

If not, if your unit gives you plenty of punch, then I'd save the money and go with the passives.

It might help if you could hear these speakers. Yorkville will give you address of the dealer closest to your home area. You can get them online.

I use the passives and have thought about getting a set of the actives but I don't really need them. I can hear the mix fine with the passives using the power from my Yamaha integrated amp.

Sooo, I guess you have to check, look, and listen and buy.

Good advice!

Thanks G-H :D

Your advice fills up my instinct. I tend to go with the cheaper stuff with compromizing sound quality....I believe my Yamaha has plently of power to drive the passive and it would be flat enough....In the other hand, I can save up to almost $200 for other shit!!!

Anyway, I went to their website and the closet dealer is about 2 hours away....I called up but they said they didn't have any YSM in the stock right now, so, I make not have a chance to hear or a/b them.

Have you listened to the Active? and if yes, how is it compared to your Passive.

Yo Bill:

I have not listened to the ACTIVE Yorks; however, my dealer is a back door of his home dealer and only a few minutes from my pad.
I may give him a call and ask if he has a pair there for me to hear.

If so, I'll buzz down there and listen and get back to you on another post.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Thanks Man....Appreciate it!

I hope when you have listened to it, it wouldn't change your mind of getting the Actives. :D

I flipped through the Yamaha reciever manual and found some interesting spec which concern a speaker setup...The unit has.

- 75W+75W power amp for main speaker -> This would serve a set of passives fine coz it need 70W Program Power (WTF is this program power anyway????)
- Impedance selector switch of 4 and 8 ohms -> I think I have to switch it to 4 ohm minimum position coz the passive has 6 ohm impedance. I don't know if this is real important though. can anyone give me some idea?

Happy Thanksgiving!
Bill
