Hi all,
I'm finally in the market for new monitors and after extensive searching on this site (I know how you all hate repeating questions ;)) I have decided on the Yorkvilles, but which ones? I already have a Mackie 1400i power amp so I "could" go with the passives, but from what I''ve been hearing, it is best to get active monitors. So would I be better off saving for the YSM-1p? I don't mind saving if I can get a better sound, but if there isn't much (any) difference then I'll go with the passives.

Also how does the YSM-1i compare to the originals? I know they have a cool new look, but do they sound just as good?

Thanx,

You have the amp already, why worry about it??? Get the passives!

Yeah, I've been leaning towards the passive but while doing some searching on this site I had read that it was best to get actives, 'cause the amps and electronics are specifically matched for the speakers or something to that effect.... So I was just wondering how much of a diff in sound (if any) that actually makes. But I think I'll go with the passives.

How about the YSM-1i? I really like the new look of them and if they sound as good as the original YSM-1, I think I'll go with them. :)

Thanx,

The YSM-1 and the YSM-1i are EXACTLY the same, except for the upgraded appearance on the "i"!

If you already have a decent amp, get the passives. I have a pair and they work very nicely for me.
