Ok, here's the deal. These were my very first real studio monitors. I got them when I was about 22 and they were my primary speakers for about 10 years. About 5 years ago they went into closet storage.

I realize active monitors can be had for $150 and that not many people still use or want passive monitors so here's what I'm proposing.

I always offer a discount to folks with student ID's (just ask Acousticles) since I like to help out the "youngsters" but I'm going to take it one step further on these.

If you're in High School AND can send me a scan of your current Student ID, these are free.

If you're in College AND can send me a scan of your current Student ID, these are $10.

If you're not a student and are still interested, PM me an offer.

I can't cover shipping so these will have to be for pickup only. I live just south of Los Angeles but am all over LA and Orange County for work so could probably work out a meet if that helps.

They're in beautiful shape, are super accurate and will serve somebody well. They have consecutive serial numbers even. They also have the front grills that are in near perfect shape.

I will take them!

Do you have an email for the student i.d.?

edit: nvm didn't see the pickup only.

That's cool of you. I hope somebody is able to take advantage of this.

Thanks for the kind words all.

Here's a thought for sockswitchshoes: maybe some other forum members would be willing to help cover shipping? Of course we'd all want to be mentioned in the "thank you" section of your first CD :)

nice, I am currently in high school trying out some home recording and i have everything except monitors. But I live in Australia and they are passive monitors and i dont have an amp for them so active monitors would probably be better for a newb like me. But its good to see that people still do great things.

Of course, I would have a thank you! Any clue how much shipping would be to massachusetts?

Sadly, I can't afford that at the moment. I appreciate what you are doing and thank you!

Anybody? I'd hate to give this to the local Goodwill and see them hooked up to a stereo system blasting NSYNC...

Nate how big are these?
For my church has the worst possible FOH location and the volunteer that works the system is always having trouble and I think these would help.
But size matters so that's why I ask.

I found this on another site:

Studio Monitors Series

YSM1 - Passive Monitor - 70w, 6.5 inch / 1 inch

The YSM-1 is a compact, 2-way, near-field studio monitor designed to accurately reproduce the signal from a recording and mixing chain without contributing sonic coloration. It has clarity and bass response that you would expect to hear from a much larger cabinet and is suitable for Home and project-studio recording as well as sound reinforcement applications. "It reproduces timbres with near pinpoint accuracy"¹. and produces pristine sound which defines the finest details and harmonics of the input signal.

FEATURES ....

The YSM-1 features a 1" soft-dome, ferrofluid-cooled tweeter and a 6 1 /2 " foam-surround woofer arranged in a symmetrical, vertical configuration with the drivers mounted slightly forward to minimize reflections off the cabinet face. A precisely tuned 2" cylindrical port directly below the woofer increases bass response and allows cabinet size to be kept compact. The internal crossover network is a ‘tried and true’ design consisting of a 12 dB/octave low-pass filter and a 6 dB/octave high-pass filter with a crossover point at 2.5 kHz. This proven design is functional, efficient and highly resistant to failure. Speaker cables are secured with gold-plated binding posts that also accept banana plugs.

The rock-solid YSM-1 is constructed of 3/4" MDF particle board and features heavy internal bracing as well as ample internal dampening material ensuring that "the YSM-1 has no unwanted bass resonances." ². The cabinet features a black cloth grille that easily snaps-on and off, and the enclosure is finished in an attractive, black woodgrain vinyl that resists scuffs and is easily cleaned. The YSM-1 exhibits impressive bass response and well articulated and balanced mid-range & treble resulting in a sound which is tight and well controlled without overshoot or flabbiness. In addition, "stereo imaging is very good, resolution is consistent in every frequency range and bass response is excellent."¹. The monitors excel at placing incredibly detailed, uniform sound across a relatively wide area allowing good variation in optimum listening location.

Designed by Yorkville’s team of engineers using state-of-the-art computer technology, the YSM-1 features the best price to performance value on the market. In fact, recent reviews favorably compare the YSM-1 to industry standard monitors costing significantly more.²

Somebody should snap these up. They were quite popular on this forum a few years ago, and considered very decent entry level monitors. I have a pair myself.

You should pick them up and go for surround sound! :D

A few more weeks and the wife is gonna make me take them out of the living room and off to Goodwill.... :(

Alright then how much again for them and your guess as to shipping to 03452 (Cow Hampster).

Yeah, what he said, except for shipping to 46214. Not saying I'll take them (though I really want them), but it depends on cost. Trust me, I'm more broke than the average student.

Hell ...... I'll take em and use the hell out of them.

Check the shipping to Deland, Fl 32720 and PM me with details and I'll PM you back my addy.
