ok
ive read everyones posts and replys about running a soundblaster card and sonar only recognizing it as a mono card.

I am running win2000pro and sonarxl with all the updates

i just bought a sb128 and now I get the mono soundcard problem

Ive tried reinstalling the windwos drivers like previous posts say, but I never get the option to do so, when i follow all the directions. (only my SB, comes up as a device to choose from)

Ive also downloaded the kx drivers, but that didnt seem to work either

please help..someone!!!! anyone!!!!

Use MME-drivers (Options -> Audio -> Advanced)

tried that

i did try mme drivers, and that did put an end to my stereo/mono issue.....but isnt wdm better? seems, when i switched to mme i lost some plug in fx

Well, yeah! It's supposed to be better. But look at it this way: One type of drivers work, the other type don't. Which one do you choose? ;)

And Plugins shouldn't go away just because you switched to MME. That was strange... Reinstall Sonar, and see if that helps.

It's a known fact that Sonar 2 is rather picky about the WDM-drivers. If you are more or less serious about recording (and I bet you are, you've just bought Sonar), you should invest in a better soundcard, such as the Audiophile 2496...

yeh

yeh ive used sonar for years..just upgraded my lousy motherboard sound to the SB..true i only paid 20 bucks for the sound blaster...and i have seen the audiophile one you are talking about..maybe its time to look into that one more

sigh..such a pain..computers that is

but thanx for your help

I battled my stupid soundblaster card for a while and finally gave up and went eith the Audiophile 2496. That was about two weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Works great, no problems, awesome! Plus, I like it.

...Well, I don't use Win2000 but XP. It's easy to roll back the driver in Control Panel. I dunno if Win2000 has this "Roll Back" feature. But I know, SB cards will be considered Mono in Cakewalk if you use Creative's driver. No matter how you upgrade to newer Creative driver version. My hint will be check your control panel, and see the list of files used by Win200 related to your SB. Write 'em down. Uninstall the card. Go Windows Explorer, and delete/move all those files (most resided in System folder, so be very carefull!!!). Just make sure you got the back up. Now, shut down your PC, and turn it on again. Windows will re-detect the card, and try to reinstall the driver. You need to insert your Windows installation CD again, but that's okay. Follow all the step. If you do it right, then you just installed the Microsoft driver, and SONAR will detect it as stereo card. I know it should, cause my little brother use this card (PCI 128). And it works just fine using Microsoft driver...

That explains why I could never find that damn microsoft driver for my sblive. Either way, I'm glad I got the 2496. Sound quality rocks. Low latencey with WDM.

ok ok

after all is said and done..i'll be bald pulling out hair trying to get win2000 to reinstall drivers for the sb card..i just cant get it to work.
so im ussing mme drivers...all seems to be fine...my latensy though is 39.9ms im sure i can get this better....is it possible?

thanx again for all your help fellow sonar users

Yes it is! :)

... but not with MME-drivers. :(

When re-installing drivers for your SB, don't let Windows look for a driver. It'll never find the Microsoft driver, you need to specify it yourself.

Yesss !!! I believe because I did get 6.7 ms latency with SB Live! on Win XP. Try using KX Project driver. It alows your SB to be ASIO compatible. It's not easy to configure, but hey... there's a fair price for each benefit, right ? :D Go KX Driver site to download the driver for FREE !!!

;)

Creatives Drivers are ASIO-compatible, maybe you'll get under 10 ms latency with them.

James, are Microsofts Live!-drivers ASIO-compatible?

...Well, that's not true. Creative has NEVER released ASIO driver for SB cards. :( And from experience, it even made SB cards detected as Mono soundcard in SONAR. ;)

...No, it's not. The only driver alows you to turn SB cards ASIO compatible is KX Project driver. It's a long path to be perfect, but somehow it works alot better than both Microsoft driver & Creative driver (In musician term). I'm sure someday they'll be there to tweak the most from these cards ;)

Really? On the box for my SB Audigy it says "Works with the following standards: ASIO-drivers". Read it here too... ;)

sigh

this whole thing has been such a pain in the ass

i tried to install kx drivers, and not a damn thing happend. Even after uninstalling my sb card, and even the motherboard sound "card" i couldnt re-install the drivers with Kx, or with the win2000 cd..nothing worked right. I could only get the stupid sb128 to work with the sb drivers. Im not grasping this whole thing I think. (and i DID build my computer, so i do have some idea of what i am doing..argh!!!)

if somone can actually guide me thru this process, id be much apreciative

so im stuck with mme drivers i guess...does e eryone agree that the audigy platinum is pretty kick ass? i see it for around $180. has the whole front panel thing going on too...looks pretty sweet, but isnt it ALSO from the SB company?

sigh!

trybalfish

ps anyone also notice u cant run protools on win2000

I thought that was just ProTools FREE...

Yup... ProTools FREE works only on Win98/ME. It won't even be installed on NT based Windows (NT, 2000, XP).

...Yes, it kicks @ss, but with $180, I'll go E-bay for better than that card. Anything from Creative ment to be Gamers card. So, no matter how hard it kick your @ss, it'll kick your head harder, and leave the pain there. I suggest you get some more "serious" card if you realy want to be more serious on your audio work. Audiophile 2496 ain't doin' that expensive, but still rocks !!!

;)

If your card is SBLive - the original (not 5.1 etc.), try to dig up the liveware 3.0 drivers. I have no problems with sterio in Sonar with them. I couldn't get the KX drivers to work under win 2K either, and the latest drivers looked like they suck. I don't even use the update to the liveware 3.0, since I have no problems with the original.

If you can't find them, I'll email them to you.
