I play drums with an acoustic group and use a small kit similar to the Slingerland Expresso (using a 16'' floor tom as a kick.) The group uses a Mackie powered mixer and there are a limited number of channels available. I am considering a single overhead condenser instead of dynamic mics. Just an FYI- the "kick" is mic'd with a D112.

There is an acoustic guitar, mandolin/banjo/fiddle, bass guitar and my kit. The only thing amplified is the bass. He uses a Hartke Kickback with PA support. Everything else comes through floor wedges. Stage volume is pretty low. We aren't trying to get a huge rock sound, just want to get everything in the mix. I would like to find something useable in the 100.00 range. Your help is appreciated!!

Pro37

Hi,

I like the Audio Technica Pro37 (Pro37r - same mic). This is a fantastic studio mic for overheads and I have used a pair of them for live sound. One should be good too, just experiment with the placement. You should be able to get a used one for $100 or slightly less.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

Thanks for the response. I wound up with a CAD GLX1200 (50.00 new.) Haven't had the chance to try it yet.
