Yamaha Work Stations

I really like the yamaha work stations, and for anyone who knows anything about them, how good are they really? As far as sound quality goes? My biggest concern is the pre amps... I havn't been able to compare it to anything but they have built in preamps obviously and I don't want to invest in one if its only mediocre quality. Also, does anyone know the difference in the preamps and other quality control components on the AW2815 and the AW4416?

I own the AW4416 and the pre amps are very harsh. I bought Soundcraft M8, RNP, GR ME-1NV, and the The Brick and turn the off the gain on the Yamaha pres. I love the converters on the AW4416 and the reverbs are sweet, better than any plug-in I own (Cubase and UAD-1). I am about to buy a AW2816, and I link it to my AW4416 using midi and S/PDIF works great like that.

The AW2816 is the same basic workstation only compromised footprint (smaller)
