Hi all and thanks in advance.

My question concerns most all Rack Modules, but I'm particularly interested in the Yamaha Motif ES or XS series.

Are there any differences between buying a Rack Module and using that with a MIDI controller or buying the keyboard itself? would I be missing anything if I didn't buy the keyboard?

In most cases - a rack module is basically the same thing - simply without the keyboard.

I can't assure that to be the case with the units you've mentioned.......but in general the modules do all the same things related to sound processing, etc.

The only thing missing would be the sequencer. The motif rack es is packed with tons of really good quality sounds... i've always liked yamaha.... very realistic pianos and guitar sounds. All the sound programming features are included in the device and can be accessed via the software interface you can download from their website. It allows you to make changes to the device without even touching it... very nice when you are a daw user...
