You're right, N-track is a multitrack recording software package. And as for the MT8X, it's definitely one of the best out there of its type, and as for sound quality, it's as good as you would expect from 8 tracks crammed onto normal audio tape. :)
 
Sorry, I don't anything about the MT-8x, although I do have a very good impression of Yamaha's recorders generally. I have a cassette-based MT-4X which I think is excellent for a cassette machine.

Oh, by the way, you might want to re-post in one of the other forums --- This one is supposed to be only for "n-track" users --- I guess "n-track" is some kind of software.
