Id avoid this piece and get one of the many supurior units that cost half as much.

MrArial,

I actually own one. There not bad, you can do a lot on them and you can get some good recordings with it.

You can pick up a new one at almost any guitar center or musicans friend, and most music shops.

You might want to try looking on Ebay, there are always a lot of them there and in good shape.

Good luck

I Like My MD4...

....and it's the heart of my home recording set up. I like the storage capability and don't want for any additional functionality at this time.

That said, if I were starting from scratch again, I'd probably go with a computer based set up. Here's my reasoning:
- A computer based setup is so much more flexible and expandable. It can grow as you do.
- It could yield higher quality recording - the MD is limited to 16 bit 44khz
- To record more than two tracks on an MD, you have to purchase MD-Data discs. These are a bit more expensive than regular MD's and difficult to find. ALSO, using the MD4 , recording 4 tracks, a single MD-Data disc will only hold 37 minutes of music. The MD8 would cut that in half. That's not a lot of space, particular if you want to do things like copy the original tracks and add additional effects.

On the flip side, I think these guys are relatively cheap - if you don't already have a computer to build on or you need (relative) portability, then the MD8 might be a great way to go.

I read a post elsewhere to the effect that Mars Music was blowing
these out, might be worth a look (or call) there if there's any
new or demo unit left.
