Hello!

I've been a HR user for some time, now, and last night i was checking something on the bottom of the page and came across the MD forum. How very nice!

I am also a MD user u see! :D
Owned a Sony MZ-R900 portable and a MDS460 deck. Both, I sold and bought athe MD4S.

I like it a lot, better tan the sony and the MD4 model. Anyway, i have like a million questions i qwould like to know!
And i think the best way to find out them is to get started!
And i see some of you started the MD8 thread, so it's jsut normal for the smaller brother to get some recogition, ight?

Anyway, i got the MD for live playing. THe story begin when out band decided to add some digital spice, to our live show. AND the most optimum solution was a MD. I got to know it better, the system of recording and our drummer the procedure of playing :D .
THe band was very satisfied with it, unitl i siggested we go a step further.

You see, we recorded some loops, arpeggios, backing vocals, speeches, etc. that could not be played orther than form an ext. device.
And since we needed a click track (well the drumer did anyway :) ) i simply made a project in Nuendo. Optimising the 2 tracks for recording.
The left100 was the drummers click and the right100 was the ''playback'' that was sent to the PA!

Everything was fine, and we were very happy with it!
Unitl i suggested we move to a stereo playback. ofcourse, that brought some guessing on what our next device would be.
Sadly not to many devices out there, that would see our requirements!
All i needed was a HD device (not tape) multi tracker.
Okay, but it has to be a 4 output aswell.
NBow i had some, idea aobut getting a HD recorder (fostex, roland...) Surprisingly it only has a stereo out! A lot of them (monitor, aux, ....but not 4 out!

Until i found about the Yamaha MD4-
I got it off the ebay, and now awaits to be recorded on! And played eventually!

Anyway, this was intro,
THe questions!

_ want to record a stereo playback track a click track and a song (mono) simultaneously!
No problem from the FF800 analog out to MD analog in!
The levels? How hot? SO i will avoid any breaking/clipping? But hott enough to still be ''loud'', clear you know. THe stereo goes to PA mixer. Also how should i record it. From the FF800 Left and right and then the signal gets recorded.! But when playing i do not need to spread them left right, right?

While running the dircet out the faders and eq, has no effect, right?
Are the track really independent from each oher. Really recorded separately?

The drummer gets both the other signals to his own litlle behringer 5track mixer. He then creates his own mixes, to his liking. Is there a way that he could do it form the monitor out/stereo out direct to headphone preamp?

SOmeother stuff i can't remember right now..

Hope i did nto scare you all!

Ihope this will be a long thread :)

I've just bought an MD4 for live purposes but I still haven't tried to record a stereo master with a click for the drummer....... but will let u know what I come up with!!!

hope it's quite simple!!!!! :D
