iv'e had these for about a week now, they are amazing!
in the past iv'e had :tannoy reveal(passive)
ns 10
fostex pm 0.5
mackie hr 626

in my opinion these are the best monitors out of the ones ive used,
they incredibly detailed and exactly what i need to make good mixes:):D

who agrees with me?

I have NS10s but Id buy Yamaha if I had to replace them.

I got some demo units from a local Guitar Center when they moved locations a couple of months ago - I pointed to them as the manager was walking by, and he told the employee I was working with to "make him an offer he can't refuse" - he said $75 each - I couldn't refuse :)

I'm currently using them as a second pair to my Adam A7s - the HS50Ms kind of hurt my ears -- they're great for zooming in on harshness in my mixes. I tried making some EQ adjustments on them, and they got a little flatter, I thought, but then I put everything back the way it was. Anyway, I'm sure I could use them as my only set.

I got my 50's earlier in the week and I like them. I've never mixed on a set of monitors in my life so I guess it will be a learning experience for me.

i think they are amazing on vocals, they are perfect for pop or rock music,i use them with a -2db high trim and they sound exellent! I monitor quietly as I have neighbours , the detail and clarity even at low levels is incredible,

i struggled to get the bass right on the ns10s but with hs50m no problem,i hate low end hype and bloated bass ,the little yamahas have none of that, solid!

yep...im definatly a lover of these....best £229 iv'e spent:D

I've had my Hs50's for a year or so and I still share your excitement. I've had Mackie Hr824's for about 5 years and always fought with them for translation. My mixes would sound good on the Mackies but not anywhere else. There was always something in the mids that wasn't quite right.

The Yammies were the best gear purchase I've ever made. They don't "sound good" particularly but I find them extremely useful at dialing in the mids. I usually start mixing on them and when it sounds good there I'll switch to the Mackies to work on the highs and lows. I tend to switch back and forth several times to make sure it sounds good on both and always check on the Yammies last.

Translation is practically flawless for me since buying these. I'm not sure I'd want them as my only pair but I can't imagine not using them as a second pair no matter what my other pair is. I will never mix on a single pair of monitors again.

Yamaha Hs50's are excellent monitors.

Enjoy.

I just bought these monitors and I think they are crystal clear, detailed and sound great. However, the lows are VERY minimal. I have trouble hearing the bass and kick drum. When I get done working on something, I bounce it down and play it back on my computer speakers and the bass blows me out the door because I overcompensated. This is really frustrating. It makes me think I need that stupid sub woofer, which sucks because I just spent $400 on monitors. I thought this would be sufficient.

*note, I am a newb. Maybe its the acoustics of my room? But then why do my $75 computer speakers have good lows?

any advice?

Just picked up some HS80M's to replace the DB L160's that I was already very pleased with. But the HS80Ms just seem to add another dimension to the sound... I am impressed
