Howyadoin,

I'm connecting my Yamaha DD-50 digital drums MIDI out to my Roland Juno-106's MIDI in, attempting to use the DD-50 to trigger the Juno.

My problem is this: I can get output from the DD-50 to the Juno when playing a song, either built in or recorded. I cannot get output when just playing the drum pads in real time. I've read both manuals, tweaked like crazy, but still can't seem to get it to work. Like I said, the song and demo modes work, so I know the physical connection is OK.

Has anyone done this in the past? If so, any assistance you could lend would be appreciated.

TIA,

Just a guess, but when you play real time is your dd-50 outputing on ch.10 ???

Howyadoin,

Thanks for the reply Stealthtech! I've defaulted the unit a couple of times, so the default channels should be active. This would put the MIDI out to 10, IIRC. I get data on 10 (the bass) and 11 (melody track) if there is a song playing or demo mode is active. Maybe it's something about the way the DD-50 sends real time events that the Juno can't handle? I'm gonna try hooking up to an M1 next, if that fails I'll try Cakewalk. It's a shame this is so tricky, the DD-50 would be an excellent real time trigger.
