Yamaha CR-820 as an amplilfier

Hi everyone,
I have a very small recording studio in quite a small room, I am in need of an amplifier to send the signal out from my computer to my speakers. I was wondering whether an old Yamaha CR-820 stereo receiver with a built in amplifier would do the trick? It doesn't need to be amazing, just to do the job :)
Thanks.

Technically, it will work. How well it will work is up to the amp (and of course, the speakers and especially the space they're all in).

Would you think the amp would be of a good enough quality to keep me going? Also, what recommendations do you have on where I should place my speakers?

Thankyou very much for the links, they were very helpful. My studio is in an old farm house room where 3 of the 4 walls are made of about 3 foot of stone. The 4th wall is made of plasterboard. My room is very small and square (6/8 meters squared), where would you position the monitors? Away from the plasterboard? How far apart?
Thankyou again :)
