OK folks,
What's the difference between the Adat XT and the Adat LX? Sweetwater.com has the LX priced at $599.99 and the XT priced at a staggering $979.99.

I was thinking of getting an XT to hold me over till I get the cash for the HD24XR but, for nearly a grand, I'll have to keep waiting. Is the LX as good as the XT?

Help me, please,
Chris

The LX20 has a less robust transport, lesser converters, and fewer I/O options. Personally, you're better off with the XT20.

Hey chris I have an XT 20 that I will be letting go of in the near future. Im lettting it go for cheap. Pm me if your interested.

Don't buy a NOS (new) ADAT. $980 for an XT20 is too much. Find a good deal on a used one. One with 1200 head-on hours or less will do fine.

FWIW, the only ADAT anyone should buy "new" is the HD24.

So, as much as 1,200 hours usage is acceptable when considering used items? What kind of servicing should have been done to a unit with said hours? Any cleaning or anything? What's an acceptable price? I don't even know what retail should be for one that's new. Musicians Friend has a "BLEM" adat xt for $800.00. Still too much I suppose.

Service history on a used ADAT XT/XT20 or Blackface with 1200+ hours (or more) should include a few head cleanings by hand, an idler wheel replacement or two. If the machine works well and hasn't been subjected to a smoky or dusty environment, it's fine. Stay away from LX models.

To find a unit at a reasonable price, the easiest source is Ebay. The Trading Post at www.sweetwatermusic.com is another. You should be able to find an XT around $300, blackface for $200-300, XT20 for $350-450.

thanks for the info! One more question. Does an XT store the number of hours it's been used and can that be changed if it does?

Thanks,
Chris

XT models store the same info as all the other models. I don't know if the head-on hours can be changed or "rolled back" or not.

You can find tips on accessing the head-on hours and error rate for an ADAT machine here;

The "ship mode" option is particularly useful.
