I just saw an old JAN (joint army-navy) mixer/pre-amp with three "normal" xlr ins and one xlr out for a six-pin connector. What is that? Is it still possible to convert them to, say a 3-pin xlr?

Could it possibly be a stereo output combined into one connector?

Are you sure it's not a combo connector? (ie, TRS and XLR in one jack....)

It seems that the unit was originally designed to record along with 16mm film. The first two inputs were low inpedance mic intputs, the third is a high impetance. The output is about a quarter inch larger than a normal xlr, and is meant to run into the projector. So i'm guessing it's an early audio/video output, but I know nothing about video.
thanks for your replies,
