X32 as controller ?

I've been using the x32 as my main console in my home studio.

Per song i store the settings in the software but i would love to be able to automate the x32

In my daw I'm sending everything to busses which correspond to the inputs on the x32

For example all drums are drum buss 1-2
Main keys are main keys buss 3-4
Etc.

Of i would be able to automate and store the actions i use on the x32 it would be perfect. But can't find anything that does something similar. Which actually surprised me.

So maybe someone here solved it.

You mean something like a plugin in your DAW that sends commands back to the X32 based on automation in the DAW?

That sounds feasible; the X32 API should certainly allow it. But it's really gonna depend on if your DAW supports that kind of modding (and if you or someone else writes it)

More like using the faders of the main channels instead of only 8 ;)

I used to do this, back in Cubase 9 or 10 days - I thought back then it used a mackie protocol, from within cubase. I spent a fruitless couple of hours today in my video studio as sitting there is a Midas M32, and cubase 14 is on the computer. Frustrated because the system I used before and half-remembered is now a legacy routine as there is a new one. 32 tracks of audio in and out via USB work perfectly, but fader operation failed miserably. Cubase asked me to wiggle a fader or a knob, and ..... nothing. I figured Steinberg would have a downloadable file, but no. Behringer and Midas would of course have templates ...... no. I found a guy on youtube who has been doing templates for years, and he has a cubase template and xml file. The xml one failed, but I will try the cubase .cpr template he gave me on monday.

X32 mixers are really common, so it's strange there is no X32 preset within cubase. If I have success, I will report back,

Thanks. I also keep wondering why no one has a working solution

Have you investigated X32Reaper? It might have the functions you're looking for. It supports 2 way communication so faders moved in Reaper can move the faders on the X32 and vice versa. It looks like you could enable automation on tracks, do a render in real time, and ride the faders like in the old days, storing the changes in Reaper.

Yes. Looks like that would work
Only problem... Im using logic ;)
Nothing wrong with reaper (used that a while on windows) but i prefer logic for things like loops, flex, chordbar etc.

The tradeoff for Automation would be too much

It works in Logic - at least it did at my Partners house/

The faders send cc data, and respond to getting it back. The issues are getting the DAW to recognise a channel 1 waggle as a message it understands, then replicating it as an output. Im hoping today to see if i can make cubase work. It just isnt playing ball at the mo.

My guy was getting the Sixteen faders to the left of the Eight faders to work - I’ll ask - but I’m pretty sure he suing the Resper Version and it translated.
Keep me updated. That would be great and helping a boat load of people.

There is a video somewhere of someone learning every single movement per slider but i don't believe that had the outcome that works as it should.

Well, so far I have wrecked a perfectly stable cubase install, and it now freezes and crashes. More soon.
If I set up a midi track with just the midi in from the mixer, over USB - it records fader movements, However, my plan was to set up another midi track, no input bt with the mixer as output - then just move the recorded track to the playback track. Unchecking the input midi on the new track works, but selecting the mixer as output freezes cubase. force quitting does not allow it to restart, a complete computer reset is needed.

Time passed. Cubase crashes as in freezes totally as soon as play is pressed using the usb midi port to the mixer.
That's enough for today.now to hopefully restore normal working before a guy turns up!

You could restore it with Time Machine if on a Mac - or use System Restore with a PC - it would put Cubase back to where it wasn’t crashing.
