Has anyone used or know more info about http://theorchard.com/ ? i'm just wondering if it might be a good way to get CDs into stores or if we'd need to be selling many more CDs first?

cheers!

They are just a distributor, some are just better than others. That one I know nothing about, but I'd like to see who has used them. If no one has, I'll contact them to get one of my CDs with them.

To answer your question, they probably accept any CD you send them. Get a copy of their contact and find out.

Joe, what distribution company/companies have you had success with? Are you in a band or are you a solo artist? What have been the benefits of using a distribution company?

Thanks a bunch!

I run a private record label here in Dallas. We distribute ourselves as well as use third parties. Locally here I use Crystral Clear, they do an ok job. BTW, I do have a band.

The benefit is that they already have connections and resources to get CDs in stores. Example, if you want to get into Walmart, you find one with their connection. A good way to see their successes is looking at their clients.

Sweet, thanks a bunch for the info! Hows the Rock N' Roll scene in Dallas right now? (GN'R, AC/DC, Velvet Revolver, Zeppelin)

I take it you're not using any?

Dallas music scene sucks. Austin is where it's at in Texas. If you ever do a show in Texas, make sure it's Austin.

Nah, we don't have a distribution company. We just go through cdbaby and itunes. We sell alot on itunes. We sell the most at shows though. We want to get distribution, but we're waiting until we get a really good chance to tour and play out more. We have a lot of shows coming up this summer so hopefully we'll be able to get our cd distributed and put in some good places. Any tips for getting distributed? If (hopefully WHEN) we get to Texas, I'll make sure we play in Austin.

Thanks a bunch Joe!

I would start looking now to get your CD in local stores. Find a local distributor and get a feel for how they work. That way when you hit the road, you'll have a good idea of what to look for when you're ready.

BTW, how much does iTunes give you per song sold?

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into distribution. On iTunes, I make alittle less than 60 cents a song. Not great, but having it available 24/7 and across the globe is worth it for us.

How many have you sold?

We sent our cd to cdbaby in November, so it took about 2-3 weeks to get the songs on itunes. We've sold about 50 dollars worth of songs on itunes so far. There are only 6 songs on our EP though, sold as singles on iTunes.
