If you find two of em in your search, lemme know. I have been looking for a Sovtek Mig60 for years now:( Lots of 30's and 50's out there. Too bad I am set on the 60:D

yeah, i'm set on the 60 too. they come up on ebay, but since everyone's got the sovtek bug now, they're getting really up there.

should have bought one last year for $200 when i had the chance.

If I may (and I just bought a BiValve so i am not gonna try to steal your KoolAid if you find it) what is the difference in the 60 vs the 50? Did they use a better tranny or something? Is it older so its before any quality control issues might have happend?

I always found them to be interesting little things. :D

I can't say for sure what the difference is. I do know however that a good friend of mine has a Sovtek Mig60 on a Mesa cab. I have always absolutely loved the tone. I want the exact same setup. We have tried having him play on a Mig 30 and 50 through the same cab and guitar, but it sounded different. I have absolutely no idea why, but have accepted the fact that a mig60 is what i want:D

the 60 gets better distortion tones, not sure why, it just does.

I don't know if they are "better" but they are certainly "different" . There is something about that mig60 that I just love. All the time I hear songs where I think that tone would be so perfect for so i started thinking, if I like it that much, I should try and have it available as a tool:D

60 = Marshall JCM800 "clone" (EL84-based)
50 = Fender clone of some sort (6L6-based)

84? You mean EL34?

How can you have a JCM800 clone with 84's?

But that does explain why the distortion is viewed as "better". lol There isn't much clean on an EL84 amp to start with. :D

But all things being equal, you can get a thing called "Yellow Jackets" from THD that let you use EL84's inplace of 6L6's. No bias to mess with either because they are act like a 6L6 work everything out for you.

Might be a nice thing to try if you happen to have access to a Mig50.

well, i bought one. now i'm looking for a decent cab. :-)

Mwahaha

Well, as much as i hate to gloat, I'm about to be that guy. Somebody's got to do it!

In '01 I went to the local shop to buy my first guitar amp; as I have always been an all-or-nothing kind of guy, I went with the half-stack. It was a used but flawless MIG-60 and a no-name 4x12 cabinet with some kind of flying saucer airbrushing on the grill. (hilarious by the way)

Any guesses on the price for head and cabinet?

this post is ridiculously old. i'm obviously no longer looking.

For reference, the Mig 60 and the Mig 50 have similar but not identical circuits. The Mig50 sounds brighter, chimier, and tighter in the bass, and has 6L6 tubes. The Mig60 sounds more like a Marshall Plexi, looser in the lows, and has EL34s. The 60 doesn't necessarily have more gain than the 50... but it does have a master volume, so it's way easier to hear the gain. Also, it has a high gain input that runs through 2 preamp tubes, and a low gain input, while the Mig50 has a I and II input (though they sound different, neither seems to have a different gain structure. The Mig50 does not have a master volume, so to hear all the gain on tap, you're going to have to go deaf. The Mig50H is a Mig 50 with a master volume, and apparently, gets plenty of gain.
