If you have either let me know!

Can trade firepod for sm7

Thanks,
Josh

I did! I haven't gotten it yet. I need one more clean pre with higher gain structure than my firestudio can provide. I'm expecting the the pre73 to have a bit of color and im looking for a really clean sounding pre too. Excited about the pre73 though. Am I making any sense? :)

...yes you are BUT, I'd wait until you get the PRE73 because I suspect it will be cleaner than you think...the first 2 stages on the PRE73 are very clean...the 3rd stage (over 60dB) will probably only exhibit slight coloration when pushed (which should sound great with an SM7B)...this preamp is alot closer in sound to the Chameleon Labs than to a true 1073...I have a pending sale on my Rane MS1-B, but if it doesn't go thru I could let you know...by then you will have the PRE73 and you'll have a better idea of what you need...just a thought...

...I'm looking forward to comparing the PRE73 to my Neve 1290 (1073 w/o EQ)...my Neve is not clean sounding, especially at higher gain...sounds great with the SM7 but it exhibits a bit too much noise on quieter sources...it's currently back in the hands of the original builder/restorer for service (distortion at higher gain levels)...

Your probably right. I do appreciate your input, and hankering to save me a little cash. :) Hows the gain on that rane anyway?

...I think the Rane is similar to the DMP3...about 66dB of gain...OK for the SM7 but not as good as the PRE73 should be at 80dB (room for some color variation hopefully)...we'll follow up once the 73s arrive...;)

cool, your ordered one too? It's like we're practically related.

...I believe I was one of the first (I originally planned to buy direct from Golden Age in Sweden and they told me that Alto was going to distribute in the US for the same price, so I waited for those to arrive)...I sourced the power supplies for Anthony after they found out that the ones they originally received were DC output (not the AC output required)...

Any interest in a Gaines Audio MP-1? I've got one for sale as I just bought the stereo version.

It's an awesome mic pre if you're looking for clean/high-gain. It has a reichenbach (pre cinemag iirc) transformer. I think the op-amps are swappable, too.
20db pad. NO phantom power. 1/4" output. 2 prong power cord. Good quality for the $$.

I'd take $90 shipped if you're interested.
