As if I haven't been here for many years and watched the debates. I can tell you, from what my ears have told me it sounds pretty damn good. I have a couple handfuls of mics and the last mic shootout I heard turned me on to the NT1-A. It had a full sound without being dark and without high end hype. What mic in the $200-300 category captures those qualities that you like?

Really, I have to say the clip I heard of the NT1A on an acoustic guitar struck me as full and clear. I guess that's just one application to consider, and maybe it's not so great on vocals. I'm not all that interested in the sm7, I want a condenser or ribbon mic that surpasses the 4 I have for vocals. I have a Studio Projects B1 which is useable but not great on vocals, M Audio Nova which I like on vocals but seems a little limited, an M Audio Luna which is nice but only one flavor, and a GT55 which isn't actually mine but is at my place. The GT55 is about on par with the others as far as I'm concerned.
So the NT1-A is not going to impress me you're saying. What about the AT4040, the AKG Perception 400, or Studio Projects C1? Those were also on my short list.
