WTB c1000s and an mpa gold

I am amazed at the lack of used MPA golds out there. I know there's one on this board but, you look on ebay and there's not a one. They are all new.

Well I guess I'm taken the plung on a new MPA.

I will still be looking for a c1000s for a while here.

Honestly, the mpa is ok but I was just as happy with a dmp3 and yes I owned and extensively used both. There was nothing about the mpa that blew away the dmp3 though the variable impedence was nice. Also, I never liked the c1000's. I'd put them on par if not slightly below mxl 604 or 603's or whatever the fuck they're called now.

Ya I know the mpa is not the best as is. A new set of tubes will be in order quickly. I also want the adjustable impedance & plate voltage. There's really nothing out there in the price range with those features for the money.

I know the c1000s has a pretty bad rap around here. I also know that some pretty decent recording enginers like it on electric guitar but, not much else.
If it does impart the sound I think it might o electric I will be very happy for the $140.00 it will cost me new. It's also one more crayon in the box for me. I can't see buying another pencil mike that sounds just like my c430's or something. From everything I understand the c1000s will at least be different.

Anyway:D I knew some people would think I was a nut for wanting these;)

The C1000's are like no other mic. Totally in a class of their own. The bottom, lowest class ever. Any MXL mic blows these things away, these mics never produced anything but total garbage, muddy trashiness, at least for me. Don't waste your money. Get some cheap MXL SDC's if that's what you're looking for.

Huh, I love mine.:)

Well the plate voltage thing seems like a gimmick, i just set it on high voltage and forget it. Also ask yourself, "why isn't there anything out there with the same feature set for a comparable price?". When it all comes down to it it's the sound of the pre and it sounds fairly plain and boring. As far as the c1000's go, harsh would be my description. I will say the ART does great as a bass di.

That is what I have heard. With the plans I have for it that may work for me.
I have not bought the c1000s yet but, the mpa is on the way. I plan to install some jj or groove tubes in it. Right now I am only working with a vlz board so all I have is a gain knob. I will soon be getting a Studio Projects pre to. I just want to have more options than I have now. If it doesn't work I can sell it. Same with the mic. I saw a older black used c1000s with no clip go for $86.00 the other day.

Thanks for your input:D

I saw that one SSR. All total it was $57.00 or so more. I thought about it but it also had to come all the way from the east coast I think and I'm a instant gratification type of guy:D I was actually looking at the k240s phones.
Can always use more phones.

Thanks

Free V67 and shock mount, for $44 more then $275, you can sell the V67 plus shock mount for $80 on here, maybe $90...

"Use “Buy It Now” for $319 and get FREE shipping and 1 FREE GIFT AND 2 Hosa 2' XLR Patch Cables !!!!. CA residents add 8.25% tax"

If your in CA, sucks to be you..

Hey I just bought that! Looking forward to swapping the tubes in this pre and see what it can do. With a pair of $120 AKG headphones, seemed like a pretty great deal. But C1000's still suck.:D

Hate to hijack the thread... but jonnyc, do you want those racks or no? Please PM or email me. Thanks!

When I post my first song with a c1000s in a lead roll. I'll let you guess what it was used on:) What do ya say we put $50.00 on it if you get it right. And if you miss it you owe me;) If they suck sooo bad it should be easy. It's wierd to me that everyone seems to want all of thier mic's to sound basicly the same. I've got a cheap ass akg d550 kick mic and it really sucks. But you know what, on floor tom it's the cock of the walk. I wouldn't sell the thing for new prices because it will likely be on every floor tom I ever record.

Oh and on the mpa, if you don't plan on using it for stereo overheads or something you may want to consider running a different tube in each side. I know it's against the rules becuse it would give you variety;) But that's my plan. why buy two telefunkens at $150 each when you can buy one and then put a mullard or JJ in the other side for $20.00. Just a thought.

I have a couple of older C1000s and they make excellent snare mics.
Works pretty dang good on Tuba, whenever you get around to micing one of those.

I know you are looking at the MPA Gold. There is Digital Gold (local Craigs list) for $200 if you are interested. See where I posted in this forum a day or so ago.
