So we're going to put out 2 songs at once to demonstrate how out-of-practice I've gotten at tracking and mixing in the last year.

Both songs are good examples of why you're one of favorite indie artists on HR!

I especially like the second one. Awesome lyrics! :D

With the right sense of humor too. Love the jangely guitars. My only nit are the drums, they seem to be a bit buried.

But what is NetDev?
Cool song - though the high hats area bit annoying.
Non Player - incisive observation humourously described and realy cool sound except for the high hat.
Cool Bvox - the verse percusssion is classic 1st album DEVO.

Yeah, drums are not my strong suit. In my earlier mixes, I manually dropped sampled hits into the project file. With these ones I used a Reaper effect that I wrote that generates random drum loops. (I wasn't sure how good it sounds, so I probably didn't bring it out enough in the mix.)

With "Netdev Sucks" I was going for a dance beat on the chorus, but I can see the high-hat being a bit loud relative to the rest of the drums.
So, more drums overall, but less hi-hat then?

Netdev is a network security professional who got banned from the Full Disclosure mailing list (one of the major security maling lists) for getting into too many off-topic fights. (They usually went like this:
Netdev: Hey! Check out this article *link to security-related article from a well-known publication or security site*
Urleet: STFU N00b! Die in a fire! We can find these articles ourselves!
Netdev: Why are you so mean? It's bad enough MI6 is spying on me! Follow my google group.)
 
The mixes do not do the performances justice.

I like your vocal delivery and lyrics a lot. I think humor in music is woefully underrepresented. You are doing a great job at it.

That IS nerd rock. (In fact, I'll probably be recording a song called "Nerd Rock" within the next few weeks.)

I'm actually relieved the vocals turned out as well as they did. I was a little sick when I did these, but just said "screw it" and forged ahead.
 
I've only checked out Netdev so far...really fun and I too get the early devo vibe from parts of it, which I consider a good thing. Like the guitars, vocals...not so hot on the drums...cymbals in particular.

But depending on what you're going for, the sound on something like this could really go in a lot of different directions...it just sounds a little odd in terms of percussion.

Listened a few times though and definitely enjoyed it. Very original and fun.:)
