I'm not too sure if it's a good deal ...

The second machine doesn't function and I wonder as to the cond of the heads for both.

I was looking at that yesterday. I wish these guys would list these things separately. It could be a great deal for someone to buy both, fix the one and sell one back, but… a gamble too.

But then a machine that doesn’t power on at all is actually a better gamble than something with bad heads, since the power side is more easily repaired with common components, like say, a fuse. :D (feel lucky?)

is it really 1"?

I would love to find a table-top 1" 16...

I don't think there are any. You might be able to mod an MSR-24 using MS-16 heads, though. And yes, the Fostex G24 and Tascam MSR24 are both 1" 24-track recorders.

I figure,...

it's a great deal and the non-working G-24 is probably an easy fix!

The description says the heads are both fine. The pics obviously show them in great condition. If I had the need, the bread, the space and the desire, I'd pick these two beauties up!

I think the non-working G-24 could probably be fixed & sold as a profit piece, or... link them up with the 4030/4035 sync/controller and have 48 tracks! Sweet! ;)

whenever something was working ok one second, and then later the power doesn't even turn on after nothing dramatic has happend, I immediately think it's most likely a fuse. I work in an electronics retail store, and people come in with "broken" voltmeters, car chargers, etc and it's ALWAYS just a fuse.
