i just cant stand protools,
OR i meet some kid that doesn't know what a mic is and he tells me:

YO DUDE I GOT A PROTOOLS STUDIO AT HOME
(one Mbox that is, to playback his shit from mediaplayer)

or i meet these guys that work in 'big' studios that can afford to spend thouuuusands of euros for just some flying faders on the control24

i don't find this impressive at all, protools is alot of software no?
i use cubase only to record, during rec i use hardware and for the mix the same.... saving, editing, downsampling....thats what my software does

i can't even see how you can say you have a studio or homestudio when u got an Mbox, u got two damn inputs....

anyway, enough bitched...

First of all, I've listened to Steve's tracks @ DAWPro; & they're absolutely first rate...so if they we're recorded via SONAR thru Apogee A/D/A 16's & a Lynx AES DIA...I want that freakin' system !!!

Secondly, I feel that both SONAR and Guitar Center get a bum rap from the high end high-brows & digital dilettantes. Yes...there are boutique pieces that can't be had there (GC); & some of the floor guys are a bit wet behind the ears, but by & large, it's a great place to shop for; & test out, gear.

And SONAR? I cut my MIDI teeth on a Pro Audio 9 rig; & the things I've been able to accomplish over the years as the app progressed?...well, others tell me it's not possible in any other sequencer.

I think a native DAW system, well designed, represents the ultimate in flexibility and sound, going all the way up to the top of the project studio mountain; & beyond.

PT does seem to be cool for the mastering types...when I recently attended my first mastering session, the me opened my stems in Pro Tools (then feeding them thru his world-class gear chain & into a Sonic workstation); & it handled them perfectly...never missing a beat. But then again...how hard is that to accomplish, codewise...right?

Thanks Mark.

I forgot all about this thread.

BTW... I'm all for PT HD systems and don't think it's fair to compare that to Sonar, just as I don't feel it's fair to compare Sonar to PTLE.

I may upgrade to a PT HD system.

But the only use I can find for PTLE is to be able to say I run a ProTools studio (I'd be lyin') or to learn the software before upgrading to the real thing (I'd be rich before, and I'd be poor after) ;) .
