Hi all...

I am a bit new here (I am sure you knew this already). I have a few new things myself and Deaj have been working on, and would love to get some input on the writting, arrangement and foremost... the over all mix.

A couple of things about these songs... the vocals are in a semi-state of disarray. They are scratch tracks and mostly just backing ideas. Now, with excuses aside... could use the feedback prior to continuing with them! :)

Beatles Tribute

In My Eyes

I really appreciate it! And thanks in advance!

I really like the Beatles tribute. Maybe lower the levels on the backing vocals at the beginning because they seem overwhelming? I don't care much for the synthesized vox at 1:57 and 3:05 where it slides down... Sounds a little bit "processed"-y and the end breaks down as far as sounding Beatles-y...

I listened to "Beatles Tribute". Really nice song and arrangement. I'm a Beatles fan so I appreciate the elements and musical quotes in this. Good vocals, guitars, drums. The bass could be more distinct IMO. The writing style is similar in some respects to Supercreep and Incanus (Little Purple Circles) who post songs here on occasion, with the complex late Beatlesque arranging style and use of varied sonorities.

Overall I'd suggest trying to get more transient detail and clarity in the mix - could be as simple as easing up on compression (use slower attacks and lower ratios) and easing up also on any heavy EQ use.

Tim... thanks for the suggestions. Much appreciated! We have been having quite a bit of problems tracking bass... either comes out very indistinct and blends into the mix.... or OVER distinct and doesn't seem to blend well. We can't seem to find that happy medium between the two.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for both tracking and working with those raw bass tracks? Seems to be the hardest instrument to work with. :(

Unfortunately, I don't have a decent set of headphones for doing detail work on mixing... so what your hearing is from a single set of reference monitors (Wharfedales). Someone loaned me a set of Calrad headphones a while back... and I was blown away by what I heard... and the price was amazingly cheap. Will have to invest in these pronto.

v6v6v6... totally understand about the end of the song... kinda dips into Klatuu territory (as does the vocals in the spots you referred to). Sort of a personal taste thingie... but they are a band that I thought carried the Beatles where they would have gone had they continued together.
