Would I benefit from a tube preamp?

I record metal. Right now I'm running my 60W 6505+ tube amp straight into a Rivera Rockcrusher attenuator for the amp soak, then into my Saffire Pro24 interface, then into some impulse responses. Considering I'm using the tube amp signal, would I benefit from a better quality preamp between the attenuator and my interface? I'm very critical of my tone, and overall unsure of the next upgrade to make.

I also have an SM57 I'd like to start using eventually, so I figured it would be of use then as well.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The simple answer - no, until you spend quite a bit of money on the preamp.

You'll get much better tone by miking up a speaker cabinet.

Like I said above, I'd like to eventually start mic'ing. Would a tube mic pre really not help while recording with a mic?

Except for guitar amps, I personally avoid tubes like they had plague. And as the vast majority of "budget-friendly" tube preamps are "Toob" preamps, unless you're dropping rather serious amounts of cash, go with solid state.

IMO/E, YMMV, etc., etc., yada, yada.
